Anyone with experience with both versions?

All I need in general is plan markups and modifications, a full complement of 2D tools, custom block creation/import, a reusable library block library.

I do not require 3D but I can do this in google when/if needed (I have needed this twice in the last 5 years).

What does LT not have that would kill me?

Visio is fine for small jobs but not sustainable for larger jobs for a myriad of reasons. I need to take DWG files, add my layers and plot on my templates so if anyone has a suggestion other that AutoCAD I am all ears.

AutoCAD LT doesn't have the ability to work with D-Tools, if that's on your radar.

Ive used both. There is nothing the full blown package has that LT doesn't. If all you need is to make drawings, LT is good to go.

No idea on DTools but that is stupid if true. I'll assume its true, thus ignorant.

I believe it's just a limitation of the LT version not being able to be "integrated" with other programs. Like they keep the API locked down if you don't buy the full-blown "professional" version.

It's AutoCAD's limitation, not D-Tools...

Yes, I would guess it was AutoCAD, not Dtools. Still stupid lol. Its not like LT is a $99 offering lol. I bet I use 1% of what autocad is capable of.

LT doesn't allow you to use scripts, which is why it doesn't work with DTools.

I didn't know about DTools integration... that's something to noodle.

When I looked at LT vs Engineering version of AutoCad (Electrical and Plumbing) the key difference was that Eng version can do wire numbers: not only drawing them, but tracking and managing the actual numbers.

But unless you're doing jobs with lots of wires and schematics, the $3-4K price diff doesn't make sense.

$1k LT version was the choice for me as it does all the floorplan needs for our trade, including grooming of layers to make UI's and stuff.
