I have a client who wants to go with the Genie. Can anyone confirm that DirecTV's RF remote kits will work with BOTH the Genie DVR and the client receivers?

TIA

Yes
Knowing that Gold went up a few K makes me think "well now I have to do a better job on selling more equipment".

I found out the hard way that the c41 and I think even the hr44 will not work via rf with the older rc65rx rf remotes. Only the newer style crap ones. wTH?

What's different about the "new style crap ones?" Most importantly, do they offer multifunction programmability like the standard RF remotes?

The new ones are RF4CE, a flavor of zigbee. Total different freq and protocol.

Do they still output programmable IR for control of third party devices?

Yes, but they communicate RF to the DirecTV box.

You cannot program the new ones to operate other equipment. IIRC, you can program TV power, input, and volume commands, and AVR volume commands. No AV1 or AV2 capability. Not that we should be concerned, but no control over bluray players, vcrs, etc. And the rocker style volume controls are silly.

We asked the DirecTV installer for the older style remotes because this client wanted to use them like he did in his previous house. He said sure and got a bunch from the van and left before we found out they did not work via RF. Of course, he probably did not know this either.

I believe the old style remotes work via IR, however. This might be better than nothing.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

They do.

I have a genie, two clients and 3 older style hddvrs in my system at home.
