This is the first step in any system. Service provider gear should be a modem only. After that use network gear that works and you know well. You have to own the network. If the WAN is down it is on the service provider but you still have the LAN working for your control system.

Yes...the router is becoming suspicious. The ios app has mysteriously become rather stable the last few days. (I think it somehow figured out I downloaded Fing and has decided to play nice.) This seems hardware related. Now I need to start shopping for an aftermarket DOCSIS 3 modem that has phone capabilities. I welcome any suggestions.

Thanks!

Try another router, I had an mrx1 that wouldn't work on a fios router, just wasn't happy, ran to bestbuy, threw in a $150 netgear and it's been plugging along for 2 years now.

That's one way to do it. It will cause some nasty double nat issues when you try and dial in, unless you are really good at static routes. (I've never met someone who is good at static routes). I don't even know if the CCP allows you to dial in from the outside.

I am not sure why the verizon router gave you issues, unless you were trying to static in the range for the moca boxes.

Upnp was already enabled.
Advertisement period 30 minutes
Time to live 4 hops
Zero config enabled
That's all there is under the device discovery setting. Any other ideas

I am confused about this as well. I looked at your file, and nothing really jumped out at me. I felt really badly that you had to program so many remotes in CCP, as it treats the iphone and ipad independently. Yuck.

It's hard to know the problem here, as you are comparing it to another app (yamaha) that sort of does the same thing, but not quite.

I have this issues with TC when I load up the app at home. If I have just turned back on my router, it takes a sec for my mrx-10 to recognize that it has connection, even though it has been sitting on.

I have to look to see what yamaha you have, but many of the aventage series have a network stand by mode where they are constantly listening for commands. I don't know for certain, but I doubt that the MRX-1 works entirely the same.

It's also a crappy piece of network gear. Of course no one is going to come out and say that, but you can't even see the MRX-1 in off-site connections the way you can the mrx-10 and the mrx-4ir. Tech support has told me time again that they never intended to have these devices static'd, and to leave the dchp for their (the mrx-1) sake. I hate to say it, but this is another half pitched effort by urc in which we all had to do the testing for them. (anyone struggling with 64 bit support for the msc-400 know exactly what I mean). The mrx-2 feels much more solid in its design.

I am guessing you did all the normal things, like switching patch cables, trying different switch ports, etc?

Perhaps you can have your provider put your Arris into bridge mode (or talk you thru it). Arri's will be pass through and you can put your own good router behind it.

Another option is to have to provider swap the Arris for a modem/phone only combo without the routing function. Again supply your own good router you can manage.

All great ideas! I am leaning towards putting the modem in bridge mode and installing a real router. I hated this Arris modem from the beginning. It's been an ongoing learning experience. I didn't know it could be put into the bridge mode until reading these posts. Comcast tech support had no clue when I called them last fall. It appears that it all depends on who you answers the phone at tech support.

I finally had Comcast put the Arris modem/router into bridge mode. The guy at Comcast phone support admitted he chose to do the same thing to his at home. (This supports all the comments about this modem/router being crap.) I have now installed my old Netgear router successfully. Network has now been operating properly for about 24 hours. Assume all is well unless I inform otherwise. I begged for Comcast do to this months ago, right after I received the new modem (handles higher speeds). They were clueless! I was clueless as well about the bridge mode...until I read the posts here. THANK YOU for all who contributed.
