Right now i have an excellent client were we have a wirepath DVR and we have had problems from day one with remote camera access. we worked through the issues and all has been well for a year. He called me today saying he cant access the cameras remotely anymore..Currently using fly2dns.
All of the difficulties in the beginning were crapcast related that required hours to work through (switching issues)
Im wondering if something has changed? Im also wondering if its time to try a different DNS service? ill be going by there tomorrow to try and get this fixed. My guess is crapcast changed the staticIP address, but even if they did shoudlnt the DNS service bypass it?

What updates the DNS service hostname on his side of the router when his WAN IP changes?

Wirepath has their own DNS service that works very well. TS can walk you through setting it up in a couple minutes.

I was skeptical at first when setting up their service , but really only takes a few minutes. You might have to update the firmware of the dvr for the option to populate, but it is solid.

If the DNS updater is actually updating, then on a WAN IP address change it should update for you.
This is the entire reason we started using Mikrotik. We got tired of having issues and 'guessing' if devices were actually checking for changes and sending updates. With Mikrotik you put in the script yourself, so you can define exactly what it's doing, when it's doing it, and see logs of what happened.
FWIW we use DynDNS, it's worth it to not have to worry about it. The worst thing that could happen with them is we forget to update our CC info and they delete our account. :)

If you want to look more "professional" or have your name always in front of the client, do what I do and use the custom dns plan at dyn http://dyn.com/I don't see my plan listed but call and ask them about it. I have the "standard dns service" which lets me use company name. Instead of Mrclient.fly2dns.com, it will be Mrclient.yourcompanyname.com It's 60.00 per year with up to 75 custom dns names, I use it to keep dvr's, nvr's and routers updated....Charge the client accordingly, and annually as I do. Shoot me an email if any questions

Another vote for DynDNS with updater script running off Mikrotik.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you still need "Something" in the actual house that updates the DNS correct? Software running in the background of a PC for example

Hi 3PedalMINI – We migrated from fly2dns to wirepathdns.com and maintain USA based, geographically redundant, mirrored DNS servers to avoid downtime (fly2dns remains operational). DVR Release Notes: [Link: snapav.com]DVR software versions 7.75.53 and later supports our wirepathdns.com dns.
