I am looking for a couple Discreet IP cameras. The home owner wants to install them in the house but doesn't want people to know they are there. I am looking for either a Smoke detector or Motion Detector type camera and all I have found have been Analog. I have looked at A#I but from what I see there isn't a lot in the Discreet IP options.

Any help would be much appreciated.

We use a wirepath DVR with analog cameras in conjunction with Control 4 to view as IP cameras. What is the need for IP? Just being able to remotely view?
Whats this wire?!?

Yes, why do you need IP?
Is it just to avoid using a dvr?
If you get the analog cameras and 4 channel dvr would be in the same ballpark. Just network the dvr and you're all set.....Plus it will give you recording also.

Google Stealth IP camera. I found quite a few "wi fi" models when i did it , hidden in smoke detectors, radios, wall clocks.

Not sure how good any of them are though...

To get Ernie on you for a second:

Discrete = individually separate and distinct.
Discreet = intentionally unobtrusive.

OK sorry about that.

What about using analog cam(s) with an IP converter(s)? We've used the ones from Wirepath and they've worked great.

There is an internal problem at the house and the home owner wants to have proof of the events happening. They don't want a DVR as that will draw attention to the situation. There is no Automation in the house so a shiny DVR or a wall lock box with the DVR inside is going to create questions.

IP will allow for remote viewing without the need of a DVR and most IP cameras have a SD card slot for minimal recording playback.

I have looked at the Axis Camera, however it only ships with an 8 meter connection to go back to the PoE injector. It says you can shorten the cable but nothing about extending it (we are going to the second floor of a house).

Hmmm...
Is the homeowner living in the house?
Is he renting it to someone?
What areas is he wanting to put these cameras in?

I ask because it's starting to sound like a slippery slope. If someone is being video taped without their knowledge and especially in an area that assumes privacy - this could be highly illegal and someone could get sued.

I have to say that I expect privacy anywhere in my house that doesn't have an uncovered window. So I have an expectation of privacy in my entire house!

Well, I didn't think he made a mistake. I wondered WTF he meant by a discrete camera but I went with it. After all, every single camera* is discrete! Then when he described something "discreet" I didn't realize it.

So don't apologize. Thanks for being there. I [obviously] think there's nothing wrong in helping people express themselves correctly.

For instance,
A discrete bellboy says "I'm working here by myself."
A discreet bellboy would never say to a woman "isn't that your husband over there with that blond?"

*that's actually a joke
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I'm assuming mega pixel…..greater resolution….I don't think he is looking for control but for these to me hidden from plain view….we don't even touch analog anymore
