These things are pathetic... beyond pathetic when it comes to bass response

What do you guys recommend for an inwall / ceiling subwoofer that is going to make these actually sound like speakers???

O.o

Gotta ask.

You verified Phase right? They certainly arent dance club speakers. But I would never describe the bass as pathetic considering its just an 8".

what electronics ya got drivin em?

Yes phase is correct since 3 different pairs all sound the same

i wasnt expecting dance club just actually hearing bass on certain songs...

and dont hate but Control4 8 Zone amp

120 @ 8 ohms
220 @ 4 ohms

I have been playing with the parametric EQ built in the amps to clean up some of the high end stuff but even when i got bored and boosted 40 hz or 31 hz it did add some bass but nothing impressive..

You said NO BASS What so ever, which could be due to woofers being blown, say due due to massive overloading of the system that blew all the woofers. You don't mention whether you have verified that any or all is performing as it should.

How old are they? Do they have foam surrounds that have rotted out?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

lol.. They are brand new speakers, they are not blown

ALL of them sound the same.. i have multiple pairs.. none of them have bass.

they are properly in phase, have good power, etc etc etc

Im extremely let down with these speakers ( just on the low end )

They sound GREAT just have no bass...

You chose a sealed speaker so your output is going to be a little reduced but they are very accurate speakers so I'm pretty confused why you're not using a subwoofer and complaining about no bass; plus these are only rated down to 50Hz so messing with the EQ below that isn't going to change the output much.

You'd get a little better performance out of a normal CT380-IDC and a sealed cavity of 1.5-2.0 cu.ft. but you should still be using a subwoofer.

Plus, you're feeding these with a mult-zone amp rated for about 35W @ 6 Ohms if not in two-channel mode? I'm not a C4 dealer, but your numbers do not match the spec sheet I Googled. [Link: dealer.control4.com] Try using Marantz with an output closer to the 120W these speakers are rated to handle; or 150W for the non-CP.

I'll admit a bias that I'm a Monitor Audio dealer, but I'm a dealer because they are quality products and I find your rant confusing.

I'm planning on using a couple of the Artison RCC 640 in-wall subwoofers next, they should be available now/soon.

What's at the front of the signal chain? Does anything have a HP filter that you didn't notice?

I'm sure you were close to the speakers at some point, but how high are the ceilings?

The frequency response is rated as "50Hz - 30kHz" wouldn't it be freaking nice if they stated ± SOMETHING?????

We, as CI dealers/contractors, etc need to hold the manufacturers' feet to the fire so they start using specs that mean something, rather than "A hundred Watts? Yeah, they'll handle a hundred Watts. Sure, they'll do that.......Once." bullshit.

I'd call them and ask what the REAL response is, not the spec for people who only see the extreme number and trust it.

If there's no HP filters, grab a laptop or smart phone, download an audio app that has a signal generator and send low frequency through them for a few hours, to see if they improve. Might be a break-in issue and if these are anything like the JBL Control 210 subwoofer, it will make a huge difference. I would also use a real RTA program with pink noise, to measure the response, so any conversations with their tech support people has some data to go along with the anger and disappointment.

That said, the enclosure is awfully small to expect a speaker to produce strong bass when it's mounted in the ceiling unless the room is small.

I agree with the statements from Davenport. I have been loving the Triad In wall slim sub if you haven't noticed. At $1400 retail it is the best value in the market.

Different C4 amp. The one he's talking about does 120w/8ohm.

Our guys are putting in one of these this week. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

None of the Monitor CP speakers I've installed have much bass.

The CP series do lack bass as does almost every other sealed design i have ever used. It provides incredibly detailed midrange and very nice controlled mid bass, but suffers due to lack of cabinet space. I feel it allows the speaker to be driven louder without bass distortion and popping due to the cone having resistance and not mounted in "free air" I have only used the CP series as part of a 5/7.1 system with subwoofer so it was never a problem. I have a pair of the new CPCT260 here to play with at shop, but have not yet. I will say I have used the non back boxed CT380IDC with a Crestron SWAMP amp and was blown away with the amount of clean clear bass even with pop music. sounded very good. TBH, i would switch to the CT380 in one zone, and see what you think.
I love supporting product that supports me!

Timely topic, considering both the new version of the Triad Slim Sub or the Artison as a replacement for existing Velodyne in-wall spec'd projects.

Has anyone heard them both? Comments?

What kind of room are you using them in? How high are the ceilings? size of the room? acoustics?

Room is massive, open floorplan, 12Kft3+. Glass and plaster. You know, great acoustics. So, I will certainly be using groups of them ...
