Why almost all HDMI to Component converters were discontinued?

Every once in a while a have a customer wanting to upgrade to a new apple tv or dvd player in a video component system, these boxes were handy .... now i cant find then anywhere... they were all discontinued, even monoprice... WHY ?

You also can't find component baluns. I have a system that needs a new set of baluns. Pretty much all manufacturers have discontinued them, or the distys aren't carrying them

Probably that they were all illegal. Adding...lack of demand (because everything is hdmi now anyway) is probably another reason.

Yes, either analog or digital via a mini optical cable.

I have used several over the years with good results so far.
When good enough is not good enough.

www.calrad.com still has one. They note that it will not pass 1080i. That would be the illegal part.

I've used the snap plenty, works fine, no issues. As much as I want to hate them, some of their stuff just works.

I've been yelled at for this, but I still use component some of the time, especially when it's just a cable box being hidden in a closet. It works and it's economical.
