I just got HDTV today from cablevision. I hooked it up with composite cables, because that's what it came with. How much better of a picture will I get with the dvi cable? Is it worth it? Also, how do you guys hook up hd receivers? Do you route them to the a/v receiver first, or do you just connect directly to the monitor and route the audio to the receiver? thanks.

Oh please spend the $20 on a DVI cable because it is much better than composite. I run my DVI cable from the HD receiver straight to the DVI input on the back of my TV, and run the audio through the receiver. Some TV's will experience a lag in the video to the audio (occasionally) if you set it up this way, but you will just have to try it.

If you hooked up your cable box with composite, then you ain't got HDTV. I think you mean component cables. The difference between component and DVI quality varies. In most cases there is a minor improvement. In some cases, there is actually better quality through analog component video due to issues in the cable box. (Motorola 6200 has some issues, I hear)

If you have Cablevision i feel for you. I wouldn't bother with the DVI cable because it may go on and off sporatically. I can't tell you how many service calls i get because of Crapelvision. Also, what type of TV do you have? DVI vs. component may have different effects on RPTV's, Plasmas, LCD's, FP.
Good Luck
