I am trying to find a music sever that will burn a CD in a decent amount of time. I have an Integra and it seems to take at least 20 minutes to burn each CD. At this rate I should be done with my collection by Labor Day. Has anyone used Request Servers and what do you think?
Thanks,
HTS1

It has been awhile but 15-20 per cd is about right for Request products. Alot seems to depend on condition of disk and size of disk. Have you tryed to rip with out play back, maybe help on time. Good luck

The short answer on Request is it depends. It depends on how old the unit is and the version of firmware installed. Older ARQ servers also took between 15-20 minutes per cd. New units are better and there is a firmware upgrade in the works that may be out or will shortly be out that will speed up the burning process a lot.

Of course dealers also have high speed burners available and if you have already burned a CD you can transfer that file to the ARQ over the network.

By far, your quickest result will be to use your PC for ripping (7-9 minutes per disc), then transfer them across your network (if the your server allows it). I use CDex, a freeware program that properly tags & names the files automatically.

The Elan ViA DJ uses a peice of software that runs in the background to check and re-check the data as it rips a CD. THis makes the ripping time take alot longer(15-25 minutes). But I am told that in the new release of the ViA DJ you will be able to disable that feature and get ripping times down to 3-5 minutes. Or try the escient Fireball it has ripping times usually of 3-5 minutes.
