So a year later...
Has anyone got an adaptor now? PS4 remotes are available now.

Are they? I've seen an announcement for one, but the little USB things just replicate a few controller buttons and don't actually let you turn the PS4 on or anything.

An official Sony branded remote isn't out yet. But there are 2 other remotes for the PS4 that I have seen (both cheap brands).
They both get horrible reviews - like you said, no power control. And very limited buttons. Both I think use a USB port for a dongle to work.

I was hoping since there is some control available now, from these cheap manufactures. That there was movement now from the better manufactures for this product.

Prices have come down so much on Bluray players and streaming boxes however, it really doesn't make any sense to not get a dedicated box for that. Rather than trying to use a PITA game console to do it.
BUT!!! I ran into a customer last week, that insisted on using his PS4 for everything. I sold him an A/V receiver, that had plenty of inputs. But he refused to listen to the logic. All I could do is shake my head. And tell him "No sir, I can't add you're PS4 onto that universal remote at this time".

Simple solution if you want IR control on your PS4: use a PC USB IR REMOTE, Google for example on:
Excelity Wireless USB PC Computer Remote Control.
If you have a programmable remote control, you can learn it the IR codes and you can use the programmable remote to control your PS4.
Works perfect for me.
It works on PS4 but also for a lot of other devices. Since this remote acts as if it's a USB keyboard (and it can also send mouse signals) it works without the need for any drivers.

Cool.

Can you share any macros you need to create to turn it off for example?

Thanks!

You can find a list of keyboard mappings if you Google for:
What are the keyboard controls for PS4
You'll find a reddit page.... if not try to search for:
ps4 keymap keyboard
It does not mention the PS button however, which would be needed to start the shutdown process, or to exit Netflix for that matter.

However, it's a very cheap solution to get a universal/programmable remote (like the popular logitech Harmony) to communicate with the PS4.
It fully suffices for browsing through the ps4 menu and starting and controlling a Netflix session, with pause, play, stop, fastforward, fastbackward.

If the PS4 Netflix application would have an exit option, you would be able to leave Netflix and scroll through the PS4 menu to the shutdown option to shut it down.

But unfortunately Netflix can only be exited by using the PS button. So that means you need to switch to your PS4 controller, or press the power button on you PS4 unit to shut it down.

I'm very happy with the additional functionality. If I want to stop watching Netflix, it's generally either because I'm going to play a game (so I need to switch to the PS4 controller anyway), or because I'm going to do something else, so I can switch of the PS4 by pressing the power button on the PS4 unit.

Perhaps if you have a full functional usb keyboard with many additional multimedia keys, you might be able to find a key combination that results in the PS-button behavior. Once you know what key combination you need, you could try to find a usb IR keyboard with these keys, and use the IR-sensor of that keyboard to connect to your PS4. Then use the keyboard to learn the trick to your universal remote.
