Does anyone know how to wipe the TV commands out of a DirecTV Remote? I want to learn codesets 1-6 to an old pronto and import into URC. The only way to capture the DirecTV discreet power commands is by using the ON & OFF buttons. Unfortunately, there's an old TV set to the TV control of the remote and when you use the ON & OFF buttons it sends the Directv commands and the TV commands.
Any idea how to delete the TV programming or maybe reset the remote to factory settings?

Don't you have a DirecTV receiver? It has reset instructions in it.

I just looked into the menu system on my HR24-500 and found these instructions for resetting the remote:

Resetting the remote clears current codes for AV1, AV2 and TV. If the remote is RF capable and set for RF currently, it will also reset to IR. To reset:

1. Press and hole MUTE and SELECT until the light above the mode switch on the remote flashes twice.
2. Enter 981 using number keys. The light will flash four times.
3. You have cleared AV1, AV2 and TV modes. Press SELECT on Done.

Before I looked for these instrucitons, I noticed some things about how the remotes operate. It's always helpful to look at the things you're messing with and notice details to see if you can make sense of them. The following makes sense once you hit the OFF button, watch the green LEDs on the remote, and think about what they are telling you.

Sometimes when I'm done with the TV in the main room, I use the OFF button and turn off the TV but not the DirecTV receiver so I can watch the video in another room. To do this I hit OFF with my hand in front of the IR, then lift my hand a fraction of a second later. This way only the TV OFF command is sent to the system, not the DirecTV OFF command

You should be able to hit the OFF command and almost immediately put your hand down in front of the remote's emitter, blocking the TV command from reaching your learner. For a start, hit the OFF and ON commands a couple of times and note the timing of the green LED at the top of the remote coming on to indicate sending a DirecTV command and a TV command.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Why do you need to import or do any of this when DTV codesets are readily available for all urc remotes? Its codeset 173. They work. Im lost on your efforts.

What Ranger Home" said. Use the discrete on and off on page two, not the hard power buttons (assuming on what remote you have)
why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

For the reading challenged.... He wants ID 1-6. Urc's database only has working codes for ID 1 and 2

he didn't say ID, he said codeset. I assumed that was one, two, three, four, five six, lol.

So we all failed at reading. :)

Maybe he really wanted to know exactly what he asked for. That's the remote control reset info I gave.

He may have wanted the hex versions of the commands as you gave them to him. The problem is, we don't know whether he really wants to do exactly what he said, or whether he simply wanted the hex commands. I haven't tried copying hex commands into the URC editor, so I don't know the answer to this: is it possible to type a hex command into the URC editor somewhere, or is he going to have to take these commands, create a ccf, then import it?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

The ON & OFF keys on Directv remote will not work unless theres TV code present, without a tv code these keys are not blank, the IR commands present only initiate a message at the bottom of receiver screen telling you to program the tv device. So the directv remote is not the proper remote to get discrete from.

I don't use URC so your point is a valid one if you can't import hex! I was only trying to help and made an assumption that it could. It was only 10 minutes of my time anyway.

Thanks for the reset info Ernie!
Yes, I'm aware that the 2nd code is the TV power code and that timed properly I could try and learn the codes. But, it's not perfect & I've spent too much time over the years on projects like that If I can get sure codes from my fellow installers, I'll go that route and save the time & heartburn.

If those codes worked for your receiver and you need more than ON and OFF, let us know. There are lots of guys here that can copy them from RTI's library and post them for you...
