I made a mistake by buying a RCA DRD435RH, all because I thought it would have Dobly Digital output through the opital digital audio output. Oooops, the manual says it's only PCM digital output. What a waste of cable, which I already have for my dvd/ld player. So now I would like to know the cheapest receiver that outputs Dobly Digital and where to buy it.

Also I have a tech question to. Where is the best place to connect the ground wire off of the dish. I've had a lightning strike a year or two ago that knocked out my receiver. Even though I had every thing connected to a surge protector, well a few of them. Thank God that APC gave me a brand new UPS and $350 for my receiver. *Shhh I found the UPS on the side of the road, the only thing that was missing was the power cord. Replaced the cord with the new one from the new UPS that they sent me before I sent the old one back.*

I just dont want to connect the ground to the DSS receiver only to have a lightning strike go to the surge protector then to the rest of the system, since the grounding in the protector is protected from the ground on the house. Unless I am wrong about that. Input would be nice on that too.

Thanks

Try grounding the dish's mounting bracket, as well as a cable grounding block for each of the incoming coaxes, preferably outside the house.

Is PCM not only the method to get the digital signal to the receiver? If your receiver can decode PCM signals, then it would decode a Dolby digital signal if it were being sent in that manner. I am just assuming, please correct me if I am ignorant.

Thanks,

John

PCM stands for Pulse Code Modulation and is digital audio. The digital audio of a CD, LD, DVD or digital broadcast *such as dss* are PCM. This is just basicaly a conversion method from an anolog source, to a digital source and transmission. There is no Dolby Digital or DTS encoded in PCM. There fore it's pointless for me to have this set up. To me it would sound just as good if the RCA cables were hooked up.
