the MRF IR output is VERY hot. I wish it had little adjustment pots like the old Niles stuff. I have soldered in 480 ohm resisters to know the IR signal down. It helped to stabilize crappy response of a Harman Kardon piece. It's still not perfect but a lot better. The other pieces respond just fine. It's as much a HK problem as it is a Universal Remote problem.

MikeTech - really glad to see I'm not the only one. I just installed my first HD DirecTV/TiVo, and I'm having the same problem. So - just to be clear, your solution was:

1) Turn off the Ir blaster on the MRF-200
2) Set the page(s) for operating the TiVo to RF only
3) Test another MX-800 to see if it's dodgy (your 'finger' test)

Please confirm. Note that I'm using v. 3.0 of the MRF-200.

And a comment: I have installed something like 20 MX-800's - AND THE RF HAS NEVER WORKED COMPLETELY AND ALWAYS ON ANY ONE OF THEM!!! I love the concept, but am growing to despise the product. And some of these systems have no DirecTV or other known interference creators. And yes, I've tried all of the troubleshooting tricks.

Hello Eric Johnson - what's the story???

Reading this post scares me. Have any of you installed 20 MX-800's that work perfectly?

Just got thru with some indepth training from Uni Rem today. If my notes are correct here is a proceedure to test for any stray rf. Update the software, set the rf base to id "0", unplug all emitters, and watch. If lights on rf base flash you have rf issues. Again, havent tested myself and it is from my short hand. They did agree that the flashers are very hot. Try to use the flasher like a flood. This is a problem with some equipment. Good Luck.

My only difference is that i set every thing to rf only with the blaster off. Also all emitters are set to a specific port. If testing this way works for you i will be very surprised. I think this was more of just a freak thing. I have done many 800 remotes and i really don't have any problems with any of them... after much troubleshooting.
My base also has the antenna off, and is approximately 7 feet from my tivo unit. Is the Tivo unit the only one you are having a problem with? Good luck and please post your outcome.

Mike

Any particular reason the base should be set to "0" to test?

Like I said earlier, this is not an isolated issue with regard to the Tivo. It has been reported by many, many people. Obviously in Mike's case he found a unit that did not suffer from the problem but others have not been so lucky.

I have installed approximately 50 mx800 remotes and about half of the ver 1.0 didn't work for me. Also I just recently had my sixth customer call me for a service call about a mx800 with ver 3.0 working inconsistently. I've stopped installing the RF stations now and I have switched back to IR. I just got in my mx3000 with mrf250. Hopefully, I'll have better luck with that one. By the way, I haven't had any problems with the mrf-100 for the mx-600 or urc-300. I thought that they had basically the same guts.

Sorry if I miss understood. Typically the problem with one issolated commponent is ir related. Not rf! Make sure that the ir blaster on the rf box is off. Make sure that the ir/rf is set to rf only on the remote. It can create overload. Please dont give up on this product is is sooooooo much better than anything else equivelent! The rf boxes are the same product regardless of tag. As long as it is a new version, 3.0. 200 or 250, same thing, just a marketing thing. I will do some research on my own and get back to ya.

I've had a whole bunch of issues with the RF-200/MX-800 combo not working certain pieces of equipment. I've read the troubleshooting guides, called Universal on occasion and I can say that nine out of ten times the problem is that the components are getting too strong of an IR blast.

If you've got five components that you're trying to control, try installing say two emitters to handle all five.

Sat receivers seem to have the biggest issue with MX-800's. Maybe because their IR receivers are already overly sensitive?

Take the blaster off of the window and move it away....maybe as much as a foot or so away. You'd be surprised at how many problems this solves.
