If I wanted to put a camera outside in the woods, how would you guys recommend I do it?  Here are some details.

1.  Doesn't have to be HD.
2.  It would be for looking at live streams of deer that I'm planning on killing.
3.  There's no power on the property.
4.  There's no WIFI on the property. (although I may be able to talk the neighbor into letting me tap his)
5.   Maybe make use of a WAP somehow?

Do ya think there's  a battery out there on the market that could pull this off for a week or two at a time?

Is this possible?

How far away from your house is the camera going to be? Or are we talking about a completely isolated place?

It's a pretty good distance.

The ideal thing would to have a completely self sufficient unit that can in some form or fashion get on the www. wirelessly.  Maybe by adding a WAP that could make up the distance.

There are a few companies such as Sun Surveillance and Skyway Security that make totally self contained units that operate via solar power and GSM/cellular for communication. Mobotix cameras are popular for this type of application because they have very low power consumption even for the outdoor models.

I'm sure you could substitute a battery for solar if you only need functionality for a week or so at a time.
The less I say, the smarter I will appear

Someone else discussed this kind of thing several months ago. Try searching the site for "hunting" or "deer" or maybe "blind."

Edit: yeah, search for "deer." One thread was about "remote construction camera." Another was Rhea's hog hunting expedition. A couple more showed up, too.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Be specific- "pretty good distance" doesn't help.

I bought a Ubiquity router for a job and didn't end up using it, but it was cheap enough that I don't really care. The range from inside my house, which is brick, was over 50 yards.

What will a WAP do without a router or switch?

Have you looked into any of the long-range WiFi products?

highfigh,
please don't be getting upset if you think your helpful answer falls on deaf ears. I specifically wrote "bump" to indicate that this thread was not at the top of the list, and it's labeled in the thread directory as being from 2013. The problem has probably been solved by now and I bumped this thread to help out in a new thread.

I write this because sometimes we get upset (I've done it, too) when we offer advice, only to find out it's way too late to be helpful.
