A customer has a system from the eon of Component Video and wants to get Netflix. He's not going to replace the projector, nor the RPBeast in the bedroom. But he'd go for a Blu-ray with an HDMI to Component converter attached to it.

He's got strong wifi and a buttoned-up condo that he doesn't want to dig into to run wires. He's about to get DirecTV whole-house to get Pandora in an easy-to-work format (we hope).

If you have other recommendations for Pandora and they involve a computer, well, never mind.

Any particular recommendations of product to get or to avoid so he can get his Netflix? Remember I'm the guy with two clients whose LG BP620s locked up.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

We use AppleTVs for Netflix. At my house we have a comcast provided all in one modem/router/access point. Wifi to the AppleTVs and both stream just fine. I use airplay from my iPhone or iPad to get pandora to play through the AppleTV.

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

This, Roku try 1st as it should still have Component out so there *SHOULDN'T* be a potential problem with an HDMI->Component converter.

ATV second.

How about a basic Xbox360? It has composite out standard, IR control, Netflix, and so much more.

I think you need XBOX Live Gold status to use Netflix though, at least you used to.

If that is no longer true then this would be a good option

You are right, never mind the XBox.

Do you have the spiffy component cable that goes with these? If so, then sold! And of course the power supply.

But hmmm... do you need a video display to set this to an audio source? I guess you do for any such device.

One of my sons has one of these and likes it. He's in charge of A/V at a med school so has some equipment experience.

Uh... firmware updated as of when? And the only guarantee I need is that I won't be complaining here that someone sold me a turkey. Two, actually.

edit: and there's not going to be any difficulty starting up new accounts with these, right??

I just checked Roku's site and none of the present models have component out. There's composite, HDMI, or both, but no component.

ATV second.

no, I would not shaft a fellow RC'er...and yes they do have firmware updates and before I updated (about 9 months-1yr ago) it was acting slow and buggy, but since the update it is rock and roll quick...just not the better looking UI that the new one has...but if you want to hack it and change the UI it is open to do so :)

no issues with setting up a new acct as I would do a factory reset before shipping....

and yes I have all the cables/remotes/factory power supplies and at least one box.
