Feds should cut off the states that dont want to participate. Then remove any federal laws that keep insurance agencies/drug companies in check. That way the vultures can setup shop on those states and do anything they want to its inhabitants.

We can call it "the right to health" law. Instead of legislation maybe they can have a televised game show where people compete in physical contests to earn points that buy vaccinations.

All further proof that big government is NOT the answer, regardless of your political affiliation. The US Government paid a CANADIAN firm $635 MILLION to build healthcare.gov...Seriously!?! You can't make this stuff up...#winning

Major flaws in a system are not glitches.

Call them whatever you want if it serves to further the apoplectic frenzy of cynical nattering naybobs. Internet history is rife with crashed websites due to high demand, public and private.

Not to mention, 3 private sector contractors involved in the massive endeavor to create a web portal for 10's of millions of people to find healthcare in 36 states.

More this didn't work so nothing will work ever fallacy.

That's from more than 3 years ago.

Facebook gets more hits per day than this website will see in it's lifetime and it has a 99.9% uptime. Regardless of your political views, they definitely hired the wrong people to make this.

Actually this stuff can be made up. 3 firms were tapped in this endeavor, one being Canadian.

And the current costs are $635 million.

The disinformation fueled in large part by ideological resistance is much more of a problem than web site engineering.

Seriously, are we to expect that the rollout of a web portal for millions of people should be problem free? I don't dispute that it's buggered up and causing frustration. But the problems seems to be being worked out. Of course I'm not invested and hoping it fails.

Facebook also took years to slowly build up and evolve, like many other well known entities. Twitter has crashed multiple times.

That's the same editorial from Couts Mogul just posted. And Couts sure doesn't like healthcare, he has many editorials about it which he cross links. Which means he's a valued opinionator.

So.....who gets AFFORDABLE health care with this thing? To me affordable implies lower costs. And it should. But insurance companies are increasing their rates across the board. So as far as I can tell, anyone and everyone who buys insurance will be paying more than they are now. The people who do not will have a penalty added to their taxes. Most of those people probably already get huge tax breaks and end up paying negative taxes.

You are correct...It is a nearly as ridiculous $635 MILLION...I simply mis-typed...No fantastical right wing misinformation campaign was involved.

I'm glad you corrected the relatively minor error before it was picked up by Breitbart.

But you are incorrect in it being 'nearly as ridiculous' as (millions). I'm not a math major, but million is not nearly as ridiculous as billion. That is what is called an order of magnitude, or a factor of 10.

But the real error you have not corrected is the statement of '635 million to one company.' That is wrong as well.

Actually, if you read the article, he links to proof the government paid CGI 634 million. I don't dispute that more than one company worked on the website. However, the fact that 634 million was paid to CGI is not really up for debate.

From what I read, we've paid them something like more than a billion dollars this year. A canadian company. I'll just leave that there.

As per the yahoo article you linked in a prior post:

"...CGI Group Inc, the Canadian contractor that built HealthCare.gov, is "declining to comment at this time," said spokeswoman Linda Odorisio."

Here's a CBS DC article about Hawaii's failed exchange that also cites CGI as the sole contractor:  [Link: washington.cbslocal.com]

"...The exchange awarded a $53 million, four-year contract to CGI Group, Inc., earlier this year to build the marketplace..."

Maybe you should get on the horn to CBS...;-)

I am also well aware that billion is more than million. The fact that this debacle cost hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars is UTTERLY RIDICULOUS by any measure or comparison.  And there's little doubt that once they "work out the kinks" the price tag will eclipse $1 billion.  Bet ya $1 DOLLAR I'm proven right...
