Want to connect multiple Sonos Connect Players to an RTI AD8 Multi-Room amp. There will be an XP8 or XP6 processor in the mix. I want to be able to sense a signal from the Sonos players that can trigger the processor to turn on zones then turn them off after music stops. Something as simple as an audio sensor that puts out DC voltage for sense inputs. Who makes such a thing?

You split one channel of the Sonos and run it into the signal input. When it detects audio it closes the relay thus passing current. All of the RDL stick on series use screw terminals and are very small. There is also another model that has a longer delay.

Couldn't you just use amps with audio sens on/off? Something like a Niles, Russound, Adcom, Episode, etc?

Led sensor too may work.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

I really like the idea of using this driver if it's reliable just to turn the amps on an off and I guess some basic abilities to display on RTiPanel. Thanks for the info.

I thought about using an audio sensing amp but I really would like to be able to set specific volume levels in zones when sonos turns on. Slider control for room volume is nice too on RTipanel

I don’t know if you have a way to get Elan equipment or not, but I have used this solution for quite a few situations:

Elan AUDSENSOR -Audio sensor

Elan SIM2 -Sensor integration module

Unfortunately, Elan no longer has links on their consumer page to access the user manuals to these. The SIM2 has two sets of sensor inputs and two sets of either NO or NC 12v outputs. It has a simple AND/OR logic switch and a LINK switch to either link or unlink the outputs. So if I had a multichannel amp with no audio sense built in, I put the audsensor on the Sonos output and connect the sensor to the SIM2, then from the SIM2 output to the 12v trigger on the amp. If you have two Sonos', then two AUDSENSOR's hooked to the SIM2 set the logic to OR and then 12v output to the 12v trigger on the amp. With one SIM2 and 4 AUDSENSOR's you could hook up to 4 Sonos' to an amp with no audio sensing.

Use the Sonos driver for RTI from MyDevice.com. You will be able to track the play/pause variable from every sonos devices and turn on or off the right zone in the ad-8 according to this variable.

PM me if you need more details.
