VCR Yup. A VCR takes a cable input, with a signal that is a TV channel (channels from cable, off the air, Channel 3 from a satellite receiver, any modulated channel from a camera modulator) and turns it into video and audio. You will want a stereo VCR. Teknobeam, what is the product you are talking about, and how is it simpler or cheaper than a VCR? I don't think that Radio Shack's search engine is good enough to locate a product with your description.

Radio Shack sells an RF modulator, the opposite of what you need. You're looking for an RF demodulator, to take channel 3 and turn it into A/V.
The only ones I've seen produce mono audio. Installer & Ernie are right, that a stereo VCR is your best bet, if it's size isn't an issue.

ok i need to redo the original message. i want a box/converter type thing that is coax in, and coax and audio/visual cables out. If a vcr does that then thats what i need. Question: if i get an RF demodulator then run cables to a RF modulator with stereo output then will it work?

The only part of all this that I sort of understand is that you want to get audio from an antenna feed to your sound system, in stereo, presumably a terrestrial broadcast station(s).
In which case, you must use a stereo demodulator with a built-in tuner. This, combined with a VHS tape drive, makes a VCR. In the Sunday circulars, you can find them everywhere for under $50, or used on Ebay for even less.
I've used one stand-alone demodulator, mono, without a tuner, and it cost about $40. So if a stereo unit with a tuner exists, it would be more than the VCR.
There's no cheaper way out.

well i just thought it over and i might just be able to use the back part of a broken VCR if it all goes to gether or a VCR that doesnt read anymore and just have the inout to an RF modulator and get a splitter thing because I also have a PS2 and i need to plug that in for my stereo. Well write me to tell me if i can take apart a broken VCR and use the back inputs and not the rest. Please let me know.

Assuming he is, Stumped must remember that "coax in" is still a hodge-podge of channels, and most likely he needs a tuner set to VHF channel 3. The tuner is why the VCR is the cheapest choice. Elsewhere, where the same question was asked, I linked to 3 tuners I found via a Google. Larry www.fineelectricco.com

The VCR puts out a modulated signal with mono audio and you can choose it to be channel 3 or 4.
Why do you need a modulator? Or do you assume you need one and you are not realizing that maybe you don't?

He MUST have a working tuner if he wants to demodulate an RF signal and break out the audio/video signals into something that can be sent to a/v outputs. An old broken VCR is a great option, but the fault in the VCR is going to have to be with the transport or servo circuit as most everything else is required to complete the mission. It would be most practical to use the VCR case as opposed to finding a new home for all this circuitry.
Stumped, here are the circuits you will need to have operational in the VCR:
Power supply Tuner Signal board Patch panel Key function panel System control
System control is needed to bias the power supply, or it won't turn on. VCRs go through a statis check at start up. Syscon sends "kick" voltages to motors to check that they're spinning, and various other things, before you are free to use the unit. If syscon gets a bad report from any sensor, it will shut down. That's why your failure in the VCR must be something like a bad belt, a stripped gear, out of timing, or an electronic problem in the servo circuit for the capstan or drum motor. Pretty much everything else has to be working.

It's possible that this product isn't on the American Radio Sack website.. [Link: radioshack.ca]

You need to go down to your nearest electronics store, tell them what you want to do, and spend some money. Start messing around with the guts of a VCR with the cord plugged in & you're going to get hurt. Even we, who are capable of doing that, know better than to ever do it.
