To answer a common question, yes you could live in Lake Tahoe. Keep in mind most people commute into Tahoe for work. There are some apartments and such for cheap but to own is expensive. In most parts of the lake a half million gets you a tear down. We have some of the most expensive real estate in the country, one of our clients just had his home listed for 42 million and Tahoe had one property sell for 76 million a few years back. The upside is lots of rich clients, the downside is you pretty much have to live off the mountain or in remote areas. But off the mountain is also great, do a search on Reno, Carson City, Minden, and Gardnerville. All are within 30 minutes of some part of the lake. Sorry for the long post.
