Excuse me for being new to this adulthood thing but the wife and I need to buy our first new mattress. First and foremost these things are super expensive. I mean super.

We went shopping today with every intention on spending $1K +/-.

Well we ended up waiting a bit because we fell in love with the whole Tempurpedic/ iComfort direction. How many of you guys. gals have mattresses that cost this much?

They were roughly $2500+

Don't even get me started on the foundations that raise and lower the feet and head sections..

I went in looking for a Sonos Play 3 and came out wanting a set of Totem Element series speakers with a new tube amp.

The wife and I take Las Vegas trips a few times a year. We love to stay at the Wynn. If you've been to the Wynn, you know what I'm talkin bout. We would always remark about the beds there. Turns out, that they sell those - they are made by sealy, maybe serta specially for that hotel. $2200+

I think $2k is towards the low end however.

Like your fav tool, a good nights sleep on a good mattress is priceless.
how in the hell does ernie make money?

Just an fyi to maybe save you from buyers remorse..
Be careful about those tempurpedic type mattresses. Yes they feel awesome when you lay on them, BUT, they trap body heat.. So if you're like me it will make for uncomfortable sleeping. Fortuneately i got one brand new for free and ditched it after a couple of nights...glad i didnt lose money on it.

Tempurpedic mattresses' sleep very very hot, no mas for me.

I have never tried one but several people around me swear by the sleep number beds, got rid of back pains and now sleep through the night.

Check them out while you are looking.

I have never heard anybody talk that highly about a bed as the sleep number.

I sleep on a big bag of money, I made it selling AV systems. :)

I think we have a Serta, spent about $2,000. We went to a Sleep Center, or some mattress store and they fitted the bed to us.
Hey, careful man, there's a beverage here!

We have had a Comfortaire King W/Pillowtop for several years (at least 10).

One of the cells developed a leak after a couple years, and the company sent out 2 new cells (they had a newer design) no charge. Never had another problem.

We also use a heated mattress pad in the winter months.

Online pricing is around $2,700.00 for one equivalent to what we have.

Wife loves it. Me, I could sleep on the floor... :-)

We have a Sleep Number, it's pretty nice. I think it was around 3k.

Between minor back issues and kids, I sleep ok, but the wife, she could sleep for days at a time.

I got my from Denver Mattress. Suppose to be a pretty good bed and guys in my local store actually talked us out of a more expensive bed in lieu of the one we got. Yes, the more expensive bed was made and sold in their store as well, so it's not like they downplayed competitor's product.

The biggest issues with buying beds is that most people just sit on them, and usually just on the edge. You can't test the bed by looking at it, sitting on it, or even laying on it for less than several minutes.
Just like theater seats, a bed needs to support your body and not just be soft/hugging to sit in; unlike a theater seat, you're going to spend 4-10 hours a night, every night in your bed.
That is unless you're Mac, in which case his GF sends him pictures every few months so that he can remember what his apartment looks like.

The adjustable bed that was given to us by a client has a Pure Latex Bliss mattress.  It's really comfortable and my wife who is critical about mattresses loves it.  Hard to describe, but it's really supportive and firm, but also soft and conforming.  I haven't read up on the science, but I think it has different layers of the latex material that have different properties.

It also doesn't get hot like the Tempurpedic foam mattresses.

The mattress is kind of icing on the cake, the bed base is adjustable and can raise and lower your head and feet independently and has a massage function.

The combination of both together is really comfortable and functional.
