We discovered this trick by accident. If it's already common knowledge, well, it's new to me.

In a system with an Integra receiver and an NEC plasma controlled by Crestron with RS-232, I accidentally gave the same signal name to the Integra's volume feedback and the NECs volume input. Somehow they were scaled the same, so the plasma's volume display (which is irrelevant, since the plasma isn't handling any audio) was mirroring the receiver's.

So regardless of the screen aspect or video source, or even if the video bypasses the receiver, the volume display always appears in the same place onscreen & is generated by the plasma itself, making it crystal clear.

Since then, that accident gets done on purpose.

Any other stories of mistakes that proved positive?

COOL!
BUT, how long you think before the two will need to be "re-calibrated"? :)

I assume you mean, when they drift out of sync with each other? Never.

The plasma takes direct volume values from the receiver. It doesn't get fed "VOL+ VOL+ VOL+ VOL+ VOL+ VOL+" , it gets "70 71 72 73 74 75" and jumps right to it.

That's one of the beauties of 2-way.

Kind of neat. Yeah that would be cool on the pronto.. alas you would not be able to ramp with a pronto. Press button once and the volume on each goes up once. Doesn't matter if you press and hold.

I wish we could get crestron but my boss has told me no too many times.
:(
