Idk. If I have to open the wall what's the point. I can use on wall. In walls. Or a sound bar at that point.
In conduit only areas where there is rigid pipe in the walls this may be a fail.
But I do like the look.
But I could get that look doing it myself some other way.

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"... |

Ed, that idea is that this is an in wall or flush unit. The modular design allows you to avoid studs and not have to cut or notch them

Oh, I see it now in the photo slideshow. Last time I viewed the slideshow, I must have missed some slides and did not see the two upclose pics of that box. It looks like a recessed box with a laptop transformer brick behind a plate and then a female IEC inlet on the side of the plate for the line voltage connection, meaning you still need another box for the AC and a cord outside the wall that goes from one plate to another.
I would guess that the plan is to remotely locate this behind the bracket, or possibly in a primary equipment room and then calculate a heavy enough low voltage cable to compensate for the voltage drop... but if I were committed to that, I might just install a receiver based system.

OK, since I brought this up, I felt I should then post the pics. Without the plate, the brick is visible.... ========= With the plate, the IEC inlet is visible.... When I was writing the first post about the power supply, I was working only on the description over the phone from one of my contacts at the local Niles reps. In my mind's eye, I pictured something where there are two entrances and the cables are kept in seperate HV and LV partitions (like a mini version of a Homeworks or Vantage InFusion enclosure that also houses a master processor with serial/IP connections and LV bus terminations), or kept at a certain distance in an open box (like how a GrafikEye or Homeworks WPM keypad bus wire is terminated in a high voltage box).

From the pictures, it looks like the grille extends out from the wall more than a typical in-wall speaker - has anyone installed these or seen them in person yet, is that correct?

The Niles soundbar appears to cause the speaker modules to hang below (in the wall) the the lower part of the frame. We're going to be using this just above a fireplace, so I'm wondering, can the modules be reversed, so that they "L" part points up?

I like the idea of an inwall soundbar with adjustable driver locations to deal with stud locations. Well done Niles. However, in real world applications, like the "rooster" pic above, we can see that the wife will simply stack a bunch of crap in front of it! An actual soundbar would need no explanation of what it is, and it would take up the space of the knick knacks that the wife would use for roosters and other crap. This is a great product for some applications, but clearly real world stupidity always overcomes superior engineering.....

I don't see why having a speaker not in the wall will keep roosters from blocking the speakers. I did a service call the other day and there was a ton of "roosters" in front of the free standing center channel. I would think the wives would be more likely to leave an in wall speaker alone.

Does anyone know the overall height of the speaker, from top of frame to bottom of the speaker module?

Yes, the modules can be reversed, but the speakers are angled away from the "L" so as to point up from below a TV. If you were to hang the speaker modules upside down it should only be with the intention of placing the sound bar above a TV.

In our project we're placing teh soundbar above a fireplace at ~4'9" so it's already higher than the seating area.

Unfortunately, the baffle angle is significant (approx 30deg), which is an issue as we'd planned to mount just above the fireplace at about 18" over ear level. Really surprised at this, it seems like it's meant to mount really low, or really high and upside down. Dang.

Is anyone with a real life experience with this product? I would like to hear their opinion.

I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.
