I usually dont get excited over anything new in this industry unless it is truly revolutionary. This sound bar is really cool, i wonder how it sounds. Im also really intrigued about their little power supply adapter too! Now if only sonos had thought about the power supply!!!

Yeah, I was reading about it yesterday. Really cool concept. I am interested to read reviews from people that have installed it and heard it.

Looks cool! What I'm missing here is this: Why, if the amp module (the item with the controls) is up in the sound bar, are they running speaker wire down the wall from the 3 speaker inserts?

Chris, they have both active and passive models.

I think it's dumb. I personally use soundbars when the job needs to be cost effective or I can't get LCR installed.  If I'm gonna take the time to go through all that to install that soundbar, I'll just move the Left and Right to the side of the TV and sell 3 speakers instead of one.

I also don't like the cover.  It looks like someone took a giant piece of masking tape and stuck it on the wall.

Other than that it's sweet.

Huh? Just like any in-wall speaker, the grille is painted to match the wall.

It is a brilliant concept IMHO. Not sure if it will be a hot seller. But it fits a niche in the market and from the looks of it, it probably sounds pretty good. I think they need a passive model for each size....maybe they will but it is not in the list they printed in the article.

If they don't offer it you could always buy the size you need and not use the amp module? I'm assuming the speakers are the same...and of course I have no idea what the price difference is here.

Anybody know what the retail pricing is going to be?

Right.  But it doesn't actually "match" the wall because by design It still sticks out from the wall a bit . And because it sticks out, and it's not a "normal" size speaker, to me it looks like a horrible mud and tape job on the drywall.   I can imagine having to explain to every house guest why the wall looks like that.

Call me too picky, but this "look" would drive me insane.

UPDATE:  My wife just walked in, I asked her if she liked the look.  Without any prompting from me she said. "What is it?"   I said, a soundbar.   She said "It looks like a bad drywall job".

I bet it looks better in person, or in high resolution. Looks very much like the grille on any other long and skinny in-wall.

I think it is a truly innovative product and I can't wait to find out more.

True. They don't yet have pics of the install. I grabbed this one from a video that is not yet public. (The rooster is more offensive than the speaker grille)

Aside from the wiring being needed for the passive models, there is also a lot of wiring needed for the active model.

The active unit has an amp/processor module that takes an optical from the TV that has to be fished into the wall, and then the module requires speaker level wiring out to the speaker modules...

HERE is the part that is kind of odd....
The powered models use low voltage powered amp/processor modules, and I have heard that you need to locate some sort of dual voltage electrical box below the soundbar location and drop a low voltage cable inside the wall to that box to enter on the LV side, and terminate to the line voltage side inside the box in some way.

I am still waiting to see a manual or some detail on this part of the system design.

It's like a power bridge kind of. The dual voltage electrical box you are referring to is the power supply. The power supply is in-wall and ultimately gets plugged into power distribution or an outlet, likely below the soundbar but could go anywhere close. There is low voltage cabling that goes from the power supply to the actual amplifier unit.

At least that is how I'm understanding it.

Exactly. You can see it in the slideshow.
