Sony TV Power Problem

A friend of mine has a sony 53xbr200. About 2 days ago a timer/stanby light on the front was blinking and he has been unable to power on the unit. He said he unplugged it for a couple hours plugged it back in with no luck. I don't use Sony products so i am not familiar with this issue. I told him to leave it unplugged for a day and see if that reboots it. The remote has no timer button on it also.
Anybody know how to reboot sony's or how to solve this issue?

Sony TVs sometimes will go into a standby mode if they are left on a video input with no signal. It actually looks like it is off. Flip through your source button and make sure your sources are connected and turned on, feeding signal to the television. Pause long enough at each source to let the television see the signal. If this fails, try 1-800-222-sony and work your way through the system to get specific help on this model TV.

I had the same problem with a customer's XBR. We call the local Sony service center. It turned out to be a cold solder on the power supply board. The tech was in and out in less than an hour.

It's a simple repair, for a TV tech.

The blinking light is a clue. Whenever a Sony TV's proc receives a fault message instead of a go message, the light blinks. Cold solder connections in the power supply can cause this, but it isn't the most common issue. Component failure in the power supply is more common. Finally, anything in the entire TV can cause the proc. to go into "fault mode" and make the light blink.

If the unit is out of warranty, hire an independent. The warranty centers tend to overcharge cash customers because the manufacturers don't pay enough for the time they spend doing warranty work. At the end of the month, this model works out for the warranty service company, but the consumer is footing the bill.

Wish I was in NY to help you. I made the decision to drop warranty work for this very reason.

Hope it's just a cold solder joint!

do you have the number for our local sony service center? Sonys are few and far between for me and the guys i know don't do Sony work.
