A client wants to interconnect a megachanger in a listening room that is 30' or so from the home theater system and would like to interconnect so he can listen to CDs in the HT area.

How long can an optic cable be without any problems?

There are also optical to coax digital and back adaptors so you can run some coax 300 feet or so. I get them from MCM, the company name is 'Digital Audio' best I can tell from the box. They also make optical repeaters.

Here is a site that has them up to 30 meters in length.

[Link: lifatec.com]

I haven't used them so can't vouch for them.

ditto deb1919,

I gotten 30M (99 feet) from Tributaries in the past, worked fine.

Take great care though...it's a LOT of fragile glass (or perhaps plastic), either way...it should wourk for you to run thirty feet.

I know that...ughhh...gack....avad....has proflex models in 30-45 foot lengths as well!

How dare you use words like that. Didn't your mother ever chase you down with a bar of soap?

Try IXOS.

If they do not manufacture a standard length that would work for you, I believe you can order custom made cables.

With POF which is what toslink cables are, you can safely run them up to 150' feet according to Belden. P.S. I recommend making your own POF cabling...saves a lot of $$$

Tom you can run fiber a bazillion miles, but if the run exceeds the output capablities of the source device then you will need to apply optical repeater(s) to keep the signal from falling short. With all that being said, based on what you are doing you should have no problems and not need a repeater, but if you do, you now know what to do, just make sure that you run a CL2/CL3 or higher rated optical cable so you are up to code.
What part of "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." do you not understand?
