This house is full of cat5 and I'd like to take the audio from the main system upstairs to a couple locations. Is there an inexpensive system to run audio from RCA outs to cat5 and back to RCAs?
Thanks! =Tom

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions. |

You can solder RCAs to the twisted pairs and it may work out alright if the distance isn't too great. Otherwise, use passive baluns like these: [Link: s-video.com]...or active ones like these: [Link: audiocontrol.com]I've used both, and have not noticed any difference. Doug @ HomeWorks

There are tons of passive baluns available out there, and most are fairly reliable. Some of the cheaper ones, however, have had trouble. Stick with a manufacturer that has been around for a while.

Try this link, I have used these, and they work great. They make a standalone, and an in-wall decora module. [Link: knollsystems.com]

I use the elan cat-5 line drivers, the source locations install into a single gang box and I screw the destination boxes to a blank panel in the back of the rack at distribution. They work very well.
