Hi guys,
I am currently building a whole house audio system in an adjoining cabinet to the one for my HT. I was wondering how I should maintain the temperature of these cabinets. I need a quiet solution because these are in my listening area. The cabinets are backed up against an outside wall that leads to a crawlspace. I was wondering if there were any cooling systems to pipe the air outside, that would be efficient enough as to not undermine my heating and cooling in the house.
Thanks for any advice,
Mark

Which one of these products, if any, would you port to the outside, and should I?
Thanks, Mark

Mark:
you should consider racking all your gear in Middle Atlantic professional racks. The whole rack can be slid into your cabinet and removed for servicing. This also helps keep the equipment cool. A solid wood cabinet is about the worse fo heat build-up.
THere are several rack mounted cooling fans that can pass air over the equipment. You can cut out a vent on the top or rear of the cabinet to expell the hot air.
Good Luck!

Hell no. I would never perforate the thermal envelope right near your AV equipment. You'll have drafts whenever the wind blower. You also will have condensation when its really hot. Use one of there products, go thru the bottom of the cabinet and return the air thru a floor register.(More expensive route) You could also cut a fan in the side of the cabinet (Cheap route) but it may not look to great.

Ok, on the other side of the wall that my HT is against is my kitchen. If I cut through the wall, into the back of my cabinet, mount fans to suck air into the cabinet from my kitchen, and exhaust it back into the kitchen, do you think that will work? I have no way of venting through the bottom of the cabinet, as it is setting on a concrete slab. My only 2 options are to vent through the bottom half of the back wall of my cabinet to the crawlspace under the kitchen, or vent through the top half of my cabinet into the kitchen just above the floor. Venting to the crawlspace is a bad idea as Oex has pointed out. How about venting to the kitchen? If you haven't pictured it yet, my HT is in a sunken living room. The living room is on a slab, the rest of the house is on a crawlspace.
Thanks, Mark

Thanks for telling me about www.activethermal.com. I talked to one of the guys there, and got a System 2+2 coming. It should do a great job for my system. Thanks, Mark

Yep. He is. He helped me out a lot. Took digital photos and sent them to him. He came up with a design for me and it sounds great.
Thanks again, Mark
