I saw you at CEPro. I just responded. Someday when they approve my comment you can read it lol. I had the same opinion about kscape until we finally caved and started selling it again. We waited for something better to show up for almost 2 years. When i did finally install it again it reminded me of why we loved it in the first place. Streaming makes the product "modern" and its still a perfect fit for its original market. High end homes/yachts/planes/tour buses etc.

1.5 hours for HD over a 50meg incoming? Yeeeeaaaahhhh I understand this finally breaths life back into Kaliedscape but it still needs to be convenient!

1.5 hours at 50mbit is 31.4 gigabytes. Are they sending full uncompressed Blu-ray quality?

I think i read something like "highest quality for downloaded content" meaning better than vudu/iTunes etc. Not sure about being equal to Blu-ray though.

Do you guys honestly believe a customer would want to wait over 3 hours for there 25-30mbps connection to download a movie? And that's if there is no dips in the network speed! A lot of larger, nice homes tend to be in more rural areas and speeds are often half what city folk get. What are yacht people using for internet? 10-12mbps wild blue?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great move for them but IMO they need to expand to all streaming services like netflix, Hulu, etc.

2-3 hours to download? Screw that, just go buy the movie, it'll be faster. It will look and sound better and if you can afford a kscape you can afford to just buy the damn movie anyway.

Supposed to be blu-ray quality (24 fps, 1080p, TruHD or DTS-HD MA) and include all the extras:

So far only one studio is on board. So it looks like it will be the same problem that every other online source has, not all the content you may be looking for.

But the download time is going to be the killer. Who plans a movie 2 to 3 hours ahead of time? And how many customers splurge for 50mbs? Many of our wealthiest clients still buck at paying more than the minimum package, or they can't even get another option. I have a customer with a Mozaex that can't get more than 1.5mbs.

This seems like too little too late.

Seems to be working for the audio world.....How many people buy there music from HDTracks or the like. I understand we are talking different clients but still most of our high income clients are super inpatient as hell and would never wait that long. There is nothing worse than having a theater full of friends and you decided to purchase a movie and have it take 2 hours. Yikes!

I said it before and I will say it again, KScape is way too late to the game on this and they should have bought Vudu when it was up for sale.

We have sold KScape but the model just doesn't seem to make any sense anymore. People are streaming WAY more then they are watching discs.

All of our customers have at least 50mbs service. Most have both cable and DSL modems. Our customers are all buying kscape right now without streaming. Adding streaming only makes it better.

Download time, cost etc are all irrelevant (for people who are buying kscape systems). Going to buy the movie in person or ordering it online and waiting for it to be delivered vs pressing a few buttons and letting it download while you do something else at home?

Until someone else comes up with an out of the box easy to use system kscape isn't going anywhere. They had two weak spots. #1 was Blu-ray and they came up with a solution. Disc vaults sound like a pita until you realize that you can load all the discs at once and let them rip in the background. No klunky PC software no BSODs. Load the discs and put the jackets in a box and never touch them again. #2 was streaming and they now have a solution for that.

Stamp, I replied at CePro.
I love Kscape but I don't see the business model able to survive very long.

I figured that they would just order up several movies so that they were ready to watch when they wanted. How long does it take to drive to the store, load it in the server and wait for it to rip? I don't think it's any shorter and this makes things much simpler.
