Got a job where the electrician did our wiring, and did a rather good job I must say, but he used standard steel gem boxes.

They are mudded into solid plaster walls, so there's no changing them. Niles & Paradigm volume controls fit them like a glove, leaving no room at all for the wires. Plus, the mud prevents feeding extra slack back into the wall.

There are no special requirements. They need not be IM or high-power, just stereo and with a smaller-than-average backside.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Audioplex are less deep than most others. There is another company Knoll systems that has great looking stuff but I haven't actually used them yet. Either one should fit. There is a wire retention clamo inthose boxes that you should remove that will give you a little more clearance.

Audioplex VC75 is also a little less than 2" deep. If you have to use a surface mount electrical box outdoors, they are the only ones I've found that fit into a sealed box like that. They come in decora as well.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

it may be tricky, but try to reroute the wires into the back center knock out. then you can feed the extra wire back into the wall. might work for you.

Not all volume controls are created equal. If you really want to use your favourite controls, think about making the boxes accomodate them. width will be no problem,, use a drill and a sawzalll to remove the back of the boxes. might take some work, but won't be impossible.
