IR controlled 12v trigger

I recently got a Mcintosh MC452 power amplifier that has on/off/remote button. if the dial is on remote (instead of on or off) then the power is turned on based on a 12 trigger at the back of the amp.

I want to use the 12v trigger to control the power with my remote (URC MX1200 that I programmed myself).

Unfortunately, my pre-amp (Linn Akurate DSM) doesn't have 12v triggers so I am at a loss as to how to achieve this.

basically i am looking for some device that will take IR based discrete on/of signals from my remote and send a 12v signal to the Mcintosh amp's 12v trigger.

Any ideas?

I already saw it, but I have to admit I need a bit more help.

So I need:
* 12v wall wart to both power the unit and to supply trigger voltage to component
* An IR receiver
* some cable to connect to the 12v trigger port on the amp
* the xantech universal remote to learn the codes

The last image from the manual seems to be close to what I want but no IR receiver is used so very confused.

Yes, with this piece you would need a 12v wall wart and an IR receiver or RF to IR processor. Sorry, I saw URC remote and assumed you were already using a processor. Didn't realize that you were doing straight IR from the remote.

Maybe someone else can chime in with a better solution.

As far as the RC68x Xantech codes go, they should be floating around this site for sure and if not, I could learn the codes and post them for you myself as I have that remote in stock.

That is the simplest way to do it, as they've put together an entire package.

I once did about the same thing by taking apart a Radio Shack antenna A/B switch and wiring directly to the relay inside... very effective but kinda amateurish. And has wires hanging loose looking unprofessional. Get the Xantech.

I don't think your URC programs through a computer, though, so you'l have to borrow the Xantech remote itself, not just codes for a computer, and teach the codes to your URC.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Ok, so I will to make this work.

I need:
DL 25 IR receiver
12v adapter
3.5mm cable

in addition to the cc12relay.

Anything else?

I use the mx1200 programmed by PC (not the consumer models) so I will need the codes :)

Does it have to be remote controlled? Could you just use a current sensing power controller instead and make it automatic?
I guarantee I'll tell you the truth and I guarantee I'll tell you what you need to know but I can't guarantee that I'll be telling you anything you want to hear.

Nevermind, i saw that completecontrol already has xantech cc12 in their database.

can you please send me the 4 codes from rc68+:
code group 50, subgroup 0 (top row)
buttons (overlay B):
80/OFF
48/ON
10/TGL
90/MNT

I will use URC Complete Control to program the remote.

thanks :)

I prefer IR controlled because I want to be able to turn it on or off because sometimes I will use my headphones with the pre-amp and want the power amp off. I am in the process of buying all the xantech bits.

I live in hong kong and not all options are readiliy available to me but the xantech parts seem to be available (just spoke to their distributor).

When pricing look at just adding URC MSC-400 processor to work with your remote. You get two contact closures/12V triggers and much more.

Just as I recommend that people list all of the products involved or around their problems, I recommend that people indicate in their thread or in their profile just where on the planet they are located.

I've seen threads like this go on and on where it seems the person asking for advice is resisting our suggestions, only to find out after we've banged our heads against the wall for twenty or thirty threads that they are in New Zealand, or Burma, or, say, Hong Kong. If we knew that, our suggestions would take into account that you can't necessarily get what we can. Please, any new members reading this: tell us where you are. (This includes little details like running wires underground... and you fail to tell us there's tundra outside!)

Another possible solution is to use a power sensing outlet with a 12v trigger output. No other pieces would be needed. Niles made them, I think an APC3 if I'm not mistaken. You would plug your preamp into the sensing outlet, and when the preamp is on, it not only turns on an outlet on the unit, but also outputs a 12v signal. I actually have a few of these, pm me if you'd be interested in one. They work great for what you're doing.
Listen, think, THEN speak.

Two options from Niles.

CS12v is the current sensing device to use

or

Niles offers an ir repeater with a controllable 12 volt trigger off the connecting block. MSU240 is the model number on the block; strongly recommend using niles ir target with same.

Looking at the quick reference guide it says the 12v out are not programmable. Does it mean I have to use the relays if I use the msc400?

Very tempted to get it but the size is an issue.

i assume you mean the msu250?

looks like the same price as the xantech solution but less fussy i.e. it has a 12v trigger port that i can plug right into the mcintosh with the supplied cable.

the ir receiver is expensive:
