I've been using this for 6 years and it's just now starting to show some wear:

It's nice because you can stand on it, sit on it, and it's rectangular and stores the hose & cord inside so doesn't take up that much room in the van and you can stack stuff on top of it.

Round shop vacs always take up way too much space... especially with the hose.

I've been tempted to get something battery operated, but haven't done it yet.

+1 to the rigid. It takes up very little space and works great.

We use the Fein Turbo 2. It is super quiet and very powerful. You can stand next to it and carry on a conversation while it is running. The hose it comes with is a bit flimsy so we replaced ours with one from Mr. Nozzle.

I have used dyson v6 vacuum cleaner for cleaning work. It has really a good suction capacity and suction power of 100AW. It uses 325W powered motor. And most important part is charging time of this vacuum is 3.5 hours. You should try these one.
Mod edit: Link removed. We can find one if we want to buy one.

We use the same one. My only complaint is that the bottom gets to get a little rough after some use in the van. There are no wheels. I usually have it on a drop, so no biggie. I keep meaning to glue some shelf liner on the bottom of it.
