I just replaced my Denon 3310 with a 3313 and hooked everything up as before. I have a Russound CAV6.6 system that does the IR distribution. I tried hooking the 3313 up with the mono cable from the acc IR out port on the CAV6.6 into the IR Input on the 3313 just like it was on the 3310. That didn’t seem to work so I just put an IR emitter on it and called it a day. While it took FOREVER to get the emitter to “work” but I figured that I wasn’t putting it in the right place. Its been working for weeks without issue.

So today, after literally NO changes the Denon stopped accepting IR at all from any emitter. I’ve tried everything, I KNOW that the emitter works
-I’ve tried new emitters (4 or 5 of them), nothing
-I’ve moved a couple of my existing working emitters off other components that worked, nothing (these worked fine before I moved them and after I moved them back)
-I bought a new mono cable to give the rear input another shot, nothing
-I also bought a stereo cable, nothing
-I used other IR ports on the CAV (known working for other components), nothing
-I tested the ACC port with other emitters and devices and they work out of that port fine
-The system remote and the Harmony both work if pointed at the unit directly (no IR distribution in place)

This WAS WORKING and NOTHING changed, the gear is in the basement and no one was even down there between when it last worked and when it “broke”.

Of course I am leaving for a business trip in the morning and now my wife is going to have to deal with the using the super buggy Denon app to turn the unit on/off, volume, input select….

HELP!?!

Firmware update?

Did you do a 'microprocessor reset' before installation? This is highly recommended to do before any install. The Denon trainer's try to beat it into the heads of all installers.

Now would be a good time to do a 'microprocessor reset' and check for any firmware updates.

Whoops, that is what I meant to say.

Other than what the others have said, here's my recommendations and experience.

1.  Cheap breaks before expensive
2.  Old breaks before new.

That being said, start with the cheapest (weakest link in the chain) and work your way up.

I'll say it, because everyone else is thinking it.  It's absolutely possible that the Denon AVR is bad out of the box, but not likely.  You're just missing something.  Certainly coud be the update.  Once you know you've got a good update, start at the bottom and work your way up.

I thinks it's crazy that you'd have to do a microprocessor reset on a new item for basic functionality to work but that's what they love telling you. Unless the procedure has changed, I have this in my phone notepad for the 3312:

Turn power off
Press power + preset 2 + preset 3 at same time
After LCD flashes release all buttons

I have seen this happen on other types of devices and it can usually be fixed with a simple hard reset (unplug) of the unit.
The less I say, the smarter I will appear

I'm getting tired of wondering if there's something wrong with a Denon receiver or something else. I have a 3313 installed with HDMI not switching. Did a processor reset and nothing. It was working when first installed. Is it possible a firmware update will fix this?

Same issue with one of our installs last week with a 3313. Was working fine with an ethereal DAD on the output. Now nothing with hdmi works. Went back to component video for cable and DVD, apple tv hdmi direct to the tv. That's how it's going to stay...tired of dealing with this crap. Yes, firmware up to date, reset performed, video resolutions were all fixed, etc, etc.

I dont think i did a reset when i first got it - kind of assumed a firmware flash would wipe it. I did also pull the power plug for a few seconds to no avail... Given that it is currently "somewhat functional" I'm probably gonna leave it until I get back - if I F it up now I might be up all night trying to fix before I leave.

Is it possible that the emitters are too "strong" or "weak" (or something else) for the Denon even though they work for other components?

I tried the emitters that came with the CAV, and also a couple different manufactures that I had laying around but all did nothing for the Denon but worked fine for the other components.

Is the Denon working with its remote? It will determine is the receiver works. What are you using for control?

Yes, "locally" both remotes (the one that came with it and the Harmony we usually use) work. But I know that the IR distribution does work as it can control the other components its connected to (blaster).

thats the part that doesnt make any sense to me, even if I blast it with a known good emitter (from another component that does work) it doesn't control the 3313, makes no sense...

And the IR is going through the russound, is this using the keypads as IR receivers?

If so, have you tried in different rooms with the same result? Maybe try a new ir receiver? What harmony, I'm far from an expert with the line but they have an rf receiver, may be worth giving it a try and seeing if it is a compatibility issue with the russound and the Denon.

Trouble shooting IR can be a huge pain. Denon has made a lot of changes with this new model line up, might be just a limitation of the new receiver.
