I've got a Samsung 5065W quoted for a job that's going to happen in about 6 weeks but I'm trying to figure out what the heck is coming down the line with the new product. What generation light engine, chip set so on and so forth is in which model. Why can't these companies just have a simple spreadsheet telling you what's what. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Ted- I know that the 5065 is one of the mid-level models that is manufactured solely for high volume retailers like Best Buy and houses an HD3 chip ( reference PHSJason's link ). I would check out a 507 before you make your final decision. I think they have superior black level.

This got put on hold for a bit so I'm just now following all of this info through. If I read it correctly the 5065 & the 507 have the HD2 Chip and are identical. At least according to the PHSJason's link.

Ted,

I was told, by someone who should know, that the only difference between the 5065 and the 507, is that the 507 can be advertised as having the Farouja processor, while the 5065 cannot, although both units do have it.

Something in regards to how the royalties are, or are not paid.

A significant difference between the HLN 42 and 50 inch sets are that some have discrete IR commands and some don't.

All of the DLPs currently shipping have discrete IR codes. Some of the models are the W1 series which was sort of a stop-gap between the HLN and the HLP series of sets. Samsung has incorporated some of the changes for the HLP series into the W1, most notable some of the IR codes. Until the newer HLP sets ship, there will continue to be confusion over which IR codes to use.

PHSJason, I was told the same thing by Samsung but my distributor says that occasionally the 50s ship with older boards and sometimes only come with discrete on/off. I installed a HLN507 about six weeks ago and tried several different sets of codes and could not access VID2 or SVID2. Fortunately I didn't need those inputs but its better to be a bit skeptical in this business.

Same problem here.
W1, I have tried everything posted for codes, with not real great success. Although, Universal just sent me a new set that I have not had a chance to check out yet.
Antenna, S-vid 1 & video 1 seem to be the hardest to find.

Vid 1 and Svid 1 were posted on this site. If you can't get them email me and I'll get you my config. It's in pcf format.
