Help! Does anyone know if the ir receiver in pioneer plasmas can be used to control other brand scources through it's media centre sr output?
Will Xantech's 794 modules work in reverse?
I'm hoping to use the inbuilt ir receiver to eliminate any potential ir problems.

The current models do not allow this, but Pioneer is working on it and they will have an IR pass-through on the new sets.

Are you saying the "control out" jack on the 5040HD's accompanying control box is not functional? I have always used the "control out" jacks on their rptv's with success. ????

The control out jack allows the unit to control a VCR or other unit, but it will not pass through any IR code that was received from the Plasma IR receiver. I spoke to a Pioneer engineer who stated that they are working on this capability.

They have been saying that for years. Honestly, IR pass through should be a mandatory requirement for all plasma TV's, that along with a full set of discrete IR codes available for download on each manufacturers web site in full pronto hex. Better yet, they should all do what Request audio is doing. They have full turnkey discretes available for download on their site for just about every programmable remote on the planet.

Mandatory, yes, but mandated by whom?

The bigger a manufacturer is, the less they have to answer to the consumer. And the biggest ones feel they can tell US what we want, rather than vice-versa.

I started a thread last year where I ranted about the continuing problem of lack of discrete codes (as I tend to do), and QQQ suggested that CEDIA should set the standards. I'm still hoping something like that will happen, as plasmas are some of the worst offenders when it comes to non-integratability (sp?)

How cool would it be to have a page at cedia.com that listed CEDIA-certified gear, one with qualifications developed by us, that we could all use for determining first-choice gear on a proposal?
