Order adapters and hire an extra guy for service calls.

That means dozens of RTiDock and and bunch of NuVo docks in the field are going to be useless once clients decide to buy new Apple gears...

Got to insert this notice on my future system designs from now on.

Whats the problem? You were just given another opportunity to make another sale. Its not like you sold them the RTiDock and also run Apple computer.

I bet Apple has no problem selling everyone in the world a whole new set of accessories.

its another opportunity for another sale!

i dont see what all the drama is about! if the client wants to upgrade they can just leave their current iphone on the dock and use that as an ipod... you guys like to whine and bitch about stupid stuff...

client... i just bought a new iphone 5 it doesnt work on my system
dealer... well we have 3 ways to deal with this
1)keep the old phone and use it as a fancy ipod
2) we can upgrade you to a new iphone dock for your system
3) or we can get an adapter that will plug into the old dock and into
the new phone

2 out of those 3 put money in your pocket and make the client happy....

I'm sure monoprice will offer adapters for $.59 each so I don't see what the big deal is.

Guys? Plural? I certainly wasn't complaining. Just informing. Hiring another tech for service calls supported by this change would be good for business. No one complaining here. These are billable service calls. What in my post made you think I was complaining?

Yes it's an opportunity to sell more stuff. But we still need to figure out how best to approach this. People aren't going to blame Apple for this. They will blame us because Apple won't listen and in alot of our clients eyes Apple can do no wrong.

I think the best way is to get ahead of this by contacting your clients that are the type to get the new iPhone every time. Let them know that the new iPhone is supposed to have a new connector. Let them know that it's probably just so Apple can make more money. Then let them know that it won't work with their existing Apple equipment. Some equipment might work with an adapter. iPorts, RTIDock and others don't have the room to be able to put an adapter on.
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

Exactly. I was going to comment that the sure way to increase the flagging sales mentioned in the article is to make current devices obsolete. When you're a fanboi, you think you're happy but you are completely at their mercy. (Of course, anyone with a phone is at the mercy of several companies.)

The very best of these ideas is letting clients know about it soon, thereby telling them that you care about them more than Apple does, before they discover that YOUR previous solution can't be used.
We can't give you a good answer, or maybe any, without the make and model of everything.
