Gents,

I purchased an MX-3000 from Tweeter here in Dallas in May of 2005. I programmed the remote myself, and have been using it happily since. Shortly after I had installed the remote, URC changed their policy, and decided to no longer supply the software to end users. (After they had accepted my money... GRRRRR!)

I recently changed some components, and need to make some alterations. The original software disk, which I have only works with XP, of which I no longer have a viable system. I contacted URC, but simply got a nice email that said software was only available to CI's.

Does the Complete Control Suite work with the MX-3000 using Win7?

You cannot program the MX-3000 in CCP. You need to use the standalone editor.

Options are to run XP in a virtual machine, get access to an XP machine or hire someone. I think Modia down there carries the line.

Thanks for the answer, even if it isn't what I wanted to hear.

I guess it is time to retire the MX-3000... It has become too big a hassle to program the thing. The programming hassle combined with the lack of hard buttons for transport, makes it not worth it.

Anybody want an MX-3000 cheap? It is in good shape, and I just recently put a brand new battery in it.

I like your outlook. I hated the MX3000, the issue you will have is you need make friends with a dealer who will give you the software so you can work on the new line up like the MX5000, which I like much more than the 3000.

I thought you were one of us.
In my opinion you are.

Is it that the stand alone will not work on windows 7 or will nobody step up and give you the software?

I think with the time and effort you have put in around here that would not be a problem.

Hit me up if you need help.

I think the issue is that the MX-3000 cant be programmed in windows 7 and it cant be programmed in CCP so your stuck programming it with the stand a lone editor in XP. Am i correct?

As far as getting software...

He already has in his possession the only way to program it, the standalone editor. So unless you're going to step WAY up and send him your XP laptop he should refer back to post 2 :-)

Sorry for the bad news but that remote is definitely long in the tooth.

Other option? Can you install the editor and run it in XP compatibility mode on your Win7 machine?

I did some quick searching on this compatibility mode. This link may help you out depending upon your Win7 version:

Nice. I was thinking of offering the same thing, but in private. Now I guess both of us will be banished from using URC.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Thanks for the offer of the URC software gents, but even more, thanks for the vote of confidence as a contributor here. This is a hobby for me, and I'm glad that I'm able to give you a little different perspective at times.

The disk I have that came with the remote, which I assume is a version number, says 1.12.122

Are they important details I should know regarding how to get this to run in a VM using Win7? I already have a WinXP mode VM setup that came configured with Win7 Pro, so I'm set there. It seems to fire up and run right. Any unusual things I'll have to do during install? Also, does anyone else have a newer version?

If this does run under a VM on Win7, that seems like a viable alternative. I think I'll give this a try. Thanks for the info on running under a VM.

I have the MX3000 editor running on my Win 7 64 laptop just fine WITHOUT using XP mode.

Works just fine.

There's no problem in running the MX-3000 editor under Windows 7. I've been doing it since Windows 7 came out (the same issue applies to Windows Vista). The issue is Vista and 7 don't include Active Sync. There's an easy workaround which is to install Windows Mobile Device Center. Instructions for installing this, and setting up the proper driver, and widely available. Do a bit of searching on this site and you should have no problem.

Does that guy have the legal right to sell URC software? He does not own the software. I see troubles in his future.

Wonder if he sells Windows, too....
