I know, Brent. There's Dr. Laura, Rush Limbaugh, G.Gordon Liddy, and let us not forget Paul Harvey. (Good day!)

Yeah, although, if everyone listened to it, it wouldn't improve it's suckiness in the least! ; )

I just have my amp's inputs set to parallel, it's just an internal bridging switch that cross connects the inputs coming from the Kustom's RCA Preouts for that zone. But a y-cable would work the same, cheapest way to do a test to see if Mono will provide you with what you're looking for. It does seem to be quite a matter of personal taste, and in some instances, practicality. It might also have to do with the speakers themselves and their output pattern.

AM Radio....what's that? Is that anything like cassettes, records, and 8-tracks?

Let us not forget 4-tracks.

In case you're saying "4-tracks??", they use(d) the same case, except the 4-track machine flipped up its own pinch roller via a spring, whereas the 8-track had its own built in. Some 8-track cartridges had little curved dimples that the rubber roller would nestle in. Look on the bottom next time you run across one.

They were widely used in radio stations, commonly called "carts" (cartridges), when such pioneering companies as Muntz, Lear Jet, et al, made self-contained chassis for cars. In radio studios, the sound was usually on tracks 1 and 2, while there were often inaudible signals on 3 and/or 4 used for cueing, etc.

Well, enough waxing nostalgic.

Okay, I'll say it. I knew you were being sarcastic.

Actually, it was obvious. I just like showin...I mean, I like explaining things. One never knows the age of people in these forums. I assume I'm on the, shall I say, higher end of age here.

I'll bet there are young'uns here who never knew a time when there wasn't McDonald's everywhere, who have never seen TVs with mechanical tuners with no UHF, and who haven't seen 8-tracks in action.

Maybe they never saw tube amps and radios, 45 RPM spindle adapters, or car radios that had only AM. How about the plastic film made to tape to the front of a black & white TV, that had a green bottom third and a blue top third to "mimic" color TV?

Anyone feeling old now? : - )

I see tube amps IN MY DREAMS! I'm gettin' a dedicated analog rig when I move. My house is full of tube radios - I've got a Radio Corporation of America, a "biggish" floor standing Atwater-Kent, a massive Philco floor model with an 18" woofer and nice wood, and various sundry table-top models. Car radios with AM only? I've got a major-big Philco underdash tube radio that I'm restoring for my '40 Chev. Toooobz !!

Wow! And I thought my 1915 crank-up Victor Talking Machine Co. record player (in pristine condition, works perfetcly, complete with decals and labels) was something. The good thing about it is that it works even when there's no power.

Don't believe that you cannot get bamboo needles anymore. (You can sharpen them) If you look around antique shops you can sometimes find the little needle wells with the lids on them, full of assorted needles. They also appear BRAND NEW on eBay once in a while:

Is that a floorstanding or tabletop model??

SYB, it looks just like this one, except mine has what I believe is an oak finish.

Thank you for the links. Great stuff! I never knew there were anything except steel needles.

I recently GAVE away two Fairchild turntables, two archival SME tonearms, an majorly JUMBO Ferrograph reel to reel, a Scott QUAD tube receiver,(With ill conceived "punch cards"), a Scott tube amp, two mono Dreadnaught amps, 4 orig. Bose 901's, LOADS of DBX interface/decoding boxes,(Some Quad, all WITH Rosewood sides still in plastic.), and the list goes on and on with mic's and tuners and small time amps.

added:

"SYB, it looks just like this one, except mine has what I believe is an oak finish."

That baby's got a folded transmission line in it - isn't the frequency range amazing considering how they achieved it? (DUDE! Where's my crossover?)

Sheik.....should have given that stuff to me. I'd pay good money for those Bose's, the Ferrograph, the Dreadnaught's, and the DBX gear. That sounds like stuff my dad had back in the day. He had some Bose speakers, I haven't got a clue what they were, but they were massive, with 15" woofers and a couple mids and tweets. They had like a burlap grill on them though....they were ugly, but damn they sounded good. He had a Kenwood quadraphonic receiver/amplifier. A Nakamichi reel to reel, and I think it was a B&O turntable. I wish I had just some of that stuff today. That'd be way cool. Kabster, don't know the DAT, it may have failed in consumer products, but before DVD's how could you get a signal better than CD? By getting a DAT. That is, if you could actually find anything worth listening to on DAT. I hate reviewers that test stuff listening to classical music. Like I'd ever listen to that....NO....I want to know what it can do with more popular music. I think Dave Matthews Band - Under The Table and Dreaming is probably my CD of choice when it comes to critical listening, or Pink Floyd's - The Wall, or....The Eagles - Hell Freezes Over.....or....the list goes on and on. I don't want accuracy, I want it to sound good to my ears. That's all I have to say about that!!!

Instead of Bose, those sound like Bozaks, which had quite a following "back in the day". I don't think Bose ever made a speaker with a woofer larger than 8 inches -- and definitely *no* tweeters :-)
