Quick question,
Are the Elan Z630's zones able to be controlled via infrared only? That is, if there are zones where a keypad is not needed, can just a simple infrared receiver be connected in place?
Anyone ever done this?

Yes, that is no problem. 3-wire Xantech or compatible models work fine.

Make sure you use ir rcvrs that can handle elan frequencies. Most of their plasma proof ones can't handle it, you have to use a 490-90 for plasma/elan installs, anywhere else most xantech stuff will be fine.

no you need to wire into the zone that you are looking to control IR and ground; if you go the mx route. IR, 12volt and ground if you use a IR receiver
