I know this has been talked about but nothing has been brought up in 6 or so months. Aside from Vortex Box (its cool but too buggy for me right now) what is your go to NAS drive especially for sonos? Im going to be doing a TON of sonos systems in the coming weeks and want to offer something that doesnt take a while to set up and is as reliable as it could be.

I know alot of people love LACIE for sonos but is there anything else more CI geared now for a "decent" price?

Sonos should bring one to market, they really need one.

Funny you should ask....

I literally just received my first shipment of Sonos stuff today.  (Yes, I finally jumped on the bandwagon).  Anyway, I got a couple of the Play 3's hooked up and started messing around wiht it.  I endedup stumbling across the "Music Library Set Up" in the settings...It did the search, recognized my Netgear Stora, and I'm off to the races.

I don't know if Netgear still makes the unit, it's inexpensive, easy to set up, and overall I'm been very happy with it.  It comes with 750GB, and a slot to add another 750G.  So 1.5 TB.  You can also access it remotely which is nice.

Whatever you choose make sure it's CIFS/SMB compatible, most "consumer grade" are. And after you've narrowed it down check here for a list of known to be incompatible models:

I use TimeCapsule purely as a Sonos NAS and for Time Machine backups, disabling WiFi and routing. This paired with Deju Vu allows for auto backup of new iTunes content in a format Sonos can understand to a designated share folder AND allows for automatically backing up Mac clients via the normal sparsebundle.

I have a Netgear ReadyNAS but the STORA looks interesting as well. The key is really have a good SYNC software soluiton for sync'ing their iTunes libraries to the NAS. This way the can continue to manage their library via their laptop or notebook and all the content gets synced back.

One thing I've been wanting to try is just get a computer, install iTunes on it, sign into their account, activate Music Match, turn on auto downloads and just point Sonos at that computer.

My thought is that by using Music Match, all their Playlists will always be updated as well as new purchases and uploaded content. I'm just not sure if Music Match would actually download the songs to the computer, probably not.

The SYNC software is still the weakest link and where I always have problems. THis is where I think Autonomics has such an upperhand.

If the client has a Mac, use a TimeCapsule. I don't know sh!t about mac's, but i always have issues with them and any other NAS.

I recently spoke to a Sonos employee and asked if they would soon support Google music. The employee basically stated they wouldn't be supporting Google music, possibly since Google has announced a Sonos competitor. He did however hint at something similar. They would not directly say what the product was but there was little doubt when I guessed it. I am predicting Sonos will very soon support Amazon Music. With this support I can't imagine a need for a NAS unless you are anti-"the man".

I just put together a NAS using the Synology DS212j box and 2 x 2TB drives in RAID 1. It is pretty slick. I had no problems with SONOS finding it, and it has all kinds of features that I have not even touched yet. I use it as a multi-purpose drive right now....it has all our photos, videos, documents, etc, backed up on it as well as all my .FLAC. We are exclusively using the laptop as our main PC right now because the desktop is borked. So I pointed the photos, videos, documents folders directly to the NAS since there is no room on the HDD for it all. Works fine. And you can access it remotely if you have internet. Anyway, the Synology seems great.

Have you compared the max capabilities of Sonos with the max capabilities of Amazon? I haven't but I imagine Sonos limitations aren't far above Amazon's.

Lots of Buffalos Terastation Pros in the field. Changing now to Qnap or Synology, their features can not be beaten.
