A client of mine recently changed from directv to dish network, not a problem in that sense, but here is my problem, I have installed and had working for some time now a McIntosh distribution system, CR16 units to 8 zones using their ir distribution components, the coax modules that they supply, routing through the CR16 and then into RCT4 units for connection onto components. I have taught Pronto TSU2000 units new codes and all is working in front of the equipment rack but no luck from remote zones, the Dish network receivers are 311's, is there a possibility that the freq of the original remotes are too high for the Mcintosh IR distribution to handle.

Can anyone throw some light on what might be the problem.

I know the RCT4 McIntosh unit will act as a repeater system without teaching it different brand IR so I feel sure that this is not the problem.

Any assistance would be greatly rxvd.

Not sure about freq.s, I do know that everything seems to be changing now..From cable boxes to the new sats..everything is getting to be a pain in the IR realm..I would guess you are having the same issue here ...Freq's are to high for IR reciever..

Original remotes as in original for dish 311 units do not work from remote zones, all other functions etc from original programming in TSU2000 remotes still works fine, problem is specific to 311 units.

Yeah, I love DN too.

Call their customer tech support line 60 times and ask them the for the ir freq that the 301 system uses. Keep track of the answers you receive from the 60 different people you speak with. View your responses in a bar chart and the highest bar is likely the right answer.

I don't guaranty that this will work, but it's been pretty reliable when I've had to ask them questions.

The RCT-4 will act as a repeater, but it doesn't do well over distances like a Xantech would. In the last system I did like this, an Escient Tunebase and a SatTiVo were distributed throughout the house on a CR12. The original remotes shot at the Mac keypads would work about 1 out of 10 times, and the programmed Prontos containing the same codes wouldn't pass at all.

In the end, the only solution was to lay out all the McIntosh codes the RCT would translate (about 22 in total) and assign them to codes on the Escient & TiVo remotes and teach all that to the RCT. I remember for the TiVo, I needed 24 codes, so I had to eliminate the thumbs up & down.

Then, I taught the correspoding Mac codes to the TiVo & Escient buttons on the Prontos. That worked reliably. Good thing too... there was NO running new IR lines in this house.

So, try to teach the DN codes to the translator & use Mac codes in the remote rooms to access them.

Thanks for the pointer, got it up and working yesterday after some issues with the DN setup, only ended up with 15 buttons, as I couldn't get continuous buttons to work only momentary, but thankfully that was sufficient as all client interface is single button macros on the Pronto for channel selection.

Thanks again.

I've tried simple Xantech and CHAD remotes with Dish Network and found that they have trouble learning commands. Since it happened with both brands of remote I chalked it up to the Dish remote having some strange codes.

Some buttons needed to be pressed twice; the cursors up and down were touchy and might skip two or three lines in the program guide, etc. DirecTV remotes never gave me those problems.

I hate to get started on a routine remote project and have to fight with some dumb remote to get it to learn. Some of the Motorola cable box remotes have gone toe to toe with me.

Anyone else been there?
