This is standard operating procedure for us. We lost a big job once and won it back by taking an iPad (first week it came out... thanks apple) with the clients floor plans on it and his name on the home page. After he had the iPad for a couple of minutes we got the project back.

Another thing we do is when we send proposals we always include screen shots of the GUI. It helps illustrate the amount of work that goes into THEIR project. It gets people thinking (posted above) "this is what MY touch panel is going to look like".

Using language that makes them feel ownership is good, too. Instead of saying 'the TV", the projector", the system", use 'your system'. It sets a mood for them, in a way.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Even just a back page that says "Please wait while projector starts up"
Thanks,
Matt

I completely agree. When I worked for a company in Florida, they would supply me with the clients house plans and give me a couple weeks to put together a personalized demo based on the system drawings.

They would fly me down in the morning and bring me to a client meeting, and most of the time, I flew back that same evening.

My sole purpose was to sit quietly for hours until the meeting started to get stale. At which point, I would take out the touch panel and set it on the conference table. Once the prospective client asked "what is that?", I would say "oh, let me show you".

Basically, I would show them a whole house controller mock up with their own house plans, their last name in an elegant font (Trajan works great) and a few zones (A/V & audio only) set up to function like they would on a real system via fake feedback etc...

We had a few bake-offs as well. Those were always interesting.... one guy put me up against my own templates. My point is, the UI is really the only part of the system the client sees every day. Hundreds of hours can go into installation and programming, but in the end, all they care about is - does it work? - it is pretty to look at? - is it easy to use? - will my friends be impressed?

They closed 100% of the jobs when a personalized demo was used. It became my specialty, but the final product worked exactly as shown in the meeting and the clients loved it. I would give them my personal contact information so they could request certain themes, graphics, colors etc..

Your tube count down gif is really cool, but I would be thrilled to just get a page that says "please wait". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

THanks,
Matt
Thanks,
Matt

Bitwise allows for animated GIFs right in Project Editor, so showing a popup with one for X amount of seconds is easy. I may put up a new splash image in the next couple days, however.

I have been working on a "media" collage graphic that could be used as a universal please wait splash, I could just add the text manually. it is actually pretty cool and I had other plans for it. The hourglass thing seems a bit overused.

Are you using Bitwise templates or do you create the projects yourself?

I use some of their buttons, but I create layouts myself. Theirs are just to busy for my taste. Most of my clients want it super simple, and that's what I aim for.
Thanks,
Matt

How do you do a pop-up screen for a set amount of time?
Thanks,
Matt

OK. Let me start over. You can do a wait page, but it always pops up, even if the projector is already on. Is there a way to do it only if the projector is off, and the Bitwise isn't sensing voltage?
Thanks,
Matt

Without discreet codes it it a little harder to do. I have a home / splash for my theater with a button that reads "initialize" which toggles projector power, shows a please wait page with the free filmstrip animation on my website for about 45 seconds, then jumps to the page for selecting sources and controlling them, receiver volume , lighting, climate etc...

That page has a "theater off" button with a popup to confirm you actually want to shut the entire room down. That macro toggles projector power, turns off lights after 2 minutes and jumps back to the splash / initialize page with the single button.

I just checked and popups cannot be used as a please wait page, but you can fake it to look like it is very easily.

I do have a button to jump directly to theater control from the splash page should the projector already be on or if I had to restart the app for any reason.
