I just installed my first computer as a piece of source equipment in a Theater system. Of course display was the first issue which I solved 95% with an ATI AWI 9800pro which has a component output. It really looks good with one exception, the picture is overscanned by 5% all the way around. I am using a 64"Pioneer Elite RPTV . Now unfortunately the there are no utilities in either the the TV or the ATI software to adjust screen size. I have already changed resolutions on the video card and also updated to the latest drivers, which did help somewhat. Even the boot up screen is overscanned so its an input issue with the TV.

Ok now for my question. Do any of you know is there an outboard box that I can put between the computer and the TV that will allow freq. adjustment?

Thx in advance for any help!

Not sure of any that works with component inputs. Have you tried looking at powerstrip?

Sorry, wasn't thinking about the fact that ATI doesn't allow more than a couple resolutions with their component converter. I think the Extron USP 405 may do what you need, but I think it costs about as much as a new HDTV.

Have you tried seeing if the horizontal and vertical size can be changed for each input in your TV? If it could be done, it would probably involve changing the service menu.

First thing you should do is ditch the ATI component dongle.
Take the VGA out to a external VGA to Component transcoder. Both Key Digital and Audio Authority make one, but the AA unit performs better.
Powerstrip is your friend. It will allow you control of overscan, position, and size.
I use ATI radeon cards along with power strip and tune everything to native pixel size. Some displays are more stubborn than others about timing and frequencies.
Here is a good reference to Powerstrip and timings:

Achieving 720p and 1080i is possible on most displays with most ATI cards
