I was at the Mits line show last week and overheard someone saying that they were using a Tivo as a low cost music server. Anybody ever done this? How do you get title information etc to go onto the Now Playing menu?

You can purchase the "Home Media Option" for generation 2 standalone Tivo models directly from Tivo. The DirecTivo models do not support it yet. It is $99 and you need to purchase a USB network adapter for each Tivo as well. With this option you can connect your Tivo to your home network. The Home Media Option adds a "Listen to music" line item to the Tivo menu. You can stream MP3's from your computer through any Tivo attached, but you need to purchase the option for each Tivo you want to acces the network. Using your remote you can sort by Artist, Album, or playlist right on your TV. You can also view pictures stored on your PC and schedule recordings from the web when you are away from home. From what I have read it works pretty well. Here is a link to the Tivo community for more info:

Anybody here know if those plain, black, unmarked TiVo remotes that work for the Hughes - and I think Phillips - will also work the new RCA PVR40 and PVR100?? Theres no model number, part number or anything anywhere on the one that came with the new RCA and I need about 3 extras.
