Would like to know what other people are doing for plasma rough-ins, if you don’t know what brand of plasma the client will have. With some of the newer plasma TV’s coming out with a/v boxes instead of direct connections.

When in doubt, run conduit. Carlon company makes flexible tubing that's two inches in diameter. It's as close to a guaranteed future proofing that I'm aware of that you can install.

You could try 3 inch greenfield. It could be considered overkill but you will be totally covered.

Fred is right on! We use the Carlon 2" flexible conduit for all plasma, projectors, all TVs. We even use it when we know exactly what cables are going in just in case. It's saved our butts several times!

Every time a customer sees it they seem inpressed.

Wouldn't recommend this - flexible but metal. Carlon would be a better bet

oex, why wouldn't you use greenfield? It is as nailproof as you can get, it isn't as flexible but it will hold the inside diameter in the bends and it's fairly easy to cut and provide some RF sheilding if grounded.

The only real way is to get the customer to commit to a specific display. You should be able to get them to commit and close the full deal for the pre and finish work. Conduit is nice but not always practical. Skip plasma anyways...goto LCD or a front projection system :)

I'll agree with that, but it's not always practical. Many times, in the time period between rough-in & installation, the models go disco.

not always practical.

Just run anything you might need, for any model. And, if at all possible, STAY AWAY from units with outboard media controllers. Unusable RS-232, and the IR eye is on the set, not the box. Fine for some situations, but I'd rather stay with a unit I can use anywhere.

Apples & oranges. But I see the smiley, so you're forgiven ;)
