Any ideas?

Commercial job where customer wants 3 of the same brand of projectors to turn on and off independently of each other. The catch is the customer wants 3 different hard buttons on the wall, 1 for each projector. Is it possible to find something with a contact closure to Ir out? Any ideas would be appreciated?

The projectors are gov't issue, which I havn't a clue what that means.

Any buttons, thats what I need help with. And that will be the control system. That and the customers finger. We are not going to be allowed to do anymore than a button on the wall for each projector to turn it on or off. the customer will have a matrix switcher for each projector to select sources by hand.

Chuck, your first concern should be whether the projectors themselves are addressable; i.e., could they be individually controlled by three individual remotes by setting each one to a "channel" or "address"?

In other words, can each projector be taught to ignore its neighbors' commands? If not, the only option would be to place an IR emitter over each IR window, and cover them with an opaque shield.

Then, you need something like a Xantech device that can steer the proper command to the proper IR emitter. Actually, the unit mentioned above should work for this setup.

It looks like this might work.
Xantech 598-00 keypad
xantech 598-00 controller
xantech RT-8 Addressable router

Any ideas?

Question: Are you planning on doing all 3 of these projectors in 1 day?

But seriously, Do Govt issue projectors even have IR remote capability?. Could you tap directly into the power switch itself to hardwire to a wall switch?

Not a great idea; most projectors require a cool-down, and don't live long when powered down via an external switch.

If it were me, it'd be a Crestron CNX-B4 keypad and a CP2 processor. You can do 232 or IR to the projectors and have 4 hard buttons with LED indicators, one each projector and the fourth for a common off or lights or anything else. Simple program, discrete control, easy wiring, etc...

Several brands are addressable. I even ran across this in a Fujitsu plasmoid.

Even government issue products have brand names because they get them somewhere, from someone who made them, and all of these people expect names on the checks. So they have names.

If the projectors are not separately addressable, a Xantech RT8 IR router could be added to the above suggestions.

But as was noted way above, you really have been too vague for the cool easy solution. You have told us you don't want to get hurt and we have told you to build a subterranean bunker.* If you can specify just how you don't want to get hurt, some bright guy might suggest you just back up one step!

*okay, it's a metaphor
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I used to purchase equipment for the Air Force. There is no such thing as a "Gvmt issued" projector. These days the Gvmt purchases about 70% of there equipment through GSA (U.S. General Services Administration)who sells brand name equipment. The other 30% of purchasing is done through local vendors with a Gvmt Visa Card. If you ask (or look), I'm sure you can find a brand name. Even issued equipment has brand names...such as an M-35 is an AM General 2.5 Ton truck
