I installed a surrond system in a small apartment building for the tenants use controlled by a URC KP 4000 and a MRX-1. I am using a PSX2 ipod dock connected to a remote dock with an extension cable. I cannot get the Ipod to connect to to the PSX2 through the remote dock.  I've tried 3 different docks with the same results. When connected to the cable without the dock it works every time.
Can anybody recommend a dock that will work in this application and a source for it?

Can't figure out what a remote dock is. Why connect a psx to another dock? Can't follow you.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

At the building managers assistance, the remote dock is being used to retain the features of the PSX2 which is located in the rack, and 1)provide security and 2) allow the tenants to "dock" the Ipod conveniently with out accessing the rack. I was assured in an earlirt thread that it had been done successfully bur I need to know the specific dock to use.

are you using some type of ipod extension cable?  if so, keep in mind that almost all of these cables only extend a few of the pins of the ipod and not all 30 pins like you would need for full functionaility of the psx2.

when I need to hide the psx2 away, i use this unit from mbquart:

and this cable to extend the connection from the psx2 to the mbquart

you are limited to 2' or 6' with this solution.

Duct Tape, the cable without the dock works perfectly and only fails when the dock is inserted. Could you PM me with cost and availability for the MB Quaet piece. Thanks

I'm assuming he is using just a standard audio connection if he can connect without the dock.

I will stop assuming. What is the cable? What is the iPod? What is receiving the signal?

The cable is a 30 pin MF extension cable. It conncts the PSX2 to a dock. I tried three different docks which are apparently meant for charging with a 3.5 stereo output jack for audio but do not carry the connection for all 30 pins. The Ipod when plugged into the cable works perfectly allowing the PSX2 to transmit audio, video to the Onkyo TN-X809 and data to the KP4000 which displays the URC GUI perfectly and controls the Ipod which is a 30GB model with out any problems. The problem is the dock I need to place at the end of the cable. I need a dock that passes all signals from the female 30 pin connector from the cable through to the Ipod and bact to the PSX2.

The dock is mounted in one of these  [Link: allcova.com]

Shouldn't the dock be connected with data, audio, and power to the in wall? I really doubt the dock is going to get power over the 30 pin. I could see the dock in the headend with a 30 pin cable to the ipod but really dont understand what you are trying to do.

Im lost.

So this works:
ipod - cable - psx2 - onkyo

This doesnt:
Ipod - random passive dock somehow connected to 30 pin cable - psx2 - onkyo

Im guessing random passive dock somehow connected to 30 pin cable is your problem.

the mbquart piece that i linked to above is just a housing for an ipod male/female 30 pin connector.  it is meant to be used with an extension cable that is plugged into another device such as a car stereo or computer, or in this case a URC ipod dock.   I think the confusion here is that he is calling whatever brand of housing that he is using a "dock".   think of it more as an ipod holder.

Shoe,  I don't think we purchase the mb quart units from a distributor.  we just pay full retail and mark it up.  i can check on this tomorrow to be sure.

I would be curious to see exactly which "dock" he is using at the far side from the rack.
