I am looking for an app that will let me edit spreadsheets and other docs on an ipad. I have found several in the app store, but figured someone here has already done the research on which are best.

Have a look at goodnotes I cant find that in the store. Are you sure thats the name? Edit: I just found it, and realized I already have this app. Its fine for some purposes. But I want to edit things like MS Office documents. Specifically spreadsheets. Not take notes.

What type of editing do you want to do? SignMyPad may fit the bill for what you need. $4.99 in the app store. It's a rock solid app, just depends on how you want to edit.
We use it for signing and making changes to invoices on jobsites.

I want to do things like open an excel template and create a new doc. Primarily for things like documenting system hook ups and IP addresses of all components. Cloud storage or evernote integration would be a plus.
Occasionally creating or editing a word document might be needed too. I also like what you said about editing and signing invoices

Occasionally creating or editing a word document might be needed too. I also like what you said about editing and signing invoices SignMyPad will only do PDF files. You could send a blank PDF file into your Ipad, edit it, and email it to your NAS and/or client....But if you definitely need excel SignMyPad may not be the right app for you. But it's awesome for signing invoices, etc. You can also get a stylus for it. (Not needed though)

The downside I see to Onlive is if on a project where Internet hasn't yet been turned on, then it isn't going to be useable

Documents to Go. Have it on my Android phone and iPad. Works great, has a free desktop application as well. Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF.

Pages and Numbers (two separate apps) are the MAC equivalents of Word and Excel and are available for the iPad. Downside is the iOS version can't be saved back as .docx and .xlsx files and Word and Excel can't open the Pages and Numbers files.
iOS versions of Word and Excel are rumored for this year.

I think I found a good solution (especially considering it is free). I found CloudOn, which is a cloud service that has MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. And it has built in DropBox support. I would have rather it have Evernote support, but I think Pentultimate is the only app that has Evernote integration.
I may later try Apple's iWork suite (Numbers, Page, and Keynote). They of course have iCloud support. And then I could attach those docs to evernote notebooks. Although, the problem I see with that is once I attach a doc to evernote, I cant edit it on the iPad.
But CloudOn is worth checking out

From what I read on ipadforums.com I think that may no longer be the case. I will have to check that out. It would make sense that they built this in as the OSX versions will do it. Thanks.
