Hi,

My computer in the study is linked to the TV in the family room and I would like to access the computer with a wireless set of keyboard and mouse. The 2 rooms are about 70 feet apart with a few walls in between. Please advise if there is any wireless keyboard and mouse that works within that range. I went to a few stores and the longest RF range is 30'. A salesman suggested that I use an extension but told me that the limitatio of RF is 16 feet. Is ther an IR wireless keyboard ? I have a conduit that runs from the study to the family room through the attic. Any suggestions ?

Thank you,

Al

We typically run usb to the room desired from the computer and then attach a good usb wireless mouse/keyboard.

So in your case get a usb extension and run the wire through the conduit to the family room and mount the RF block there and you should be good.

It sounds like you had an installer run conduit for you in your house since most homes don't come standard with conduit from family room to study. Why don't you have them do the work for you? Did they install the computer setup connected to your family room TV? They should have added the keyboard and mouse then...

Thanks for the advise.

The installer who wired my house was under contract with the builder. My exisiting installer will be setting up the entire AV system (5.1, 6 other zones audio and CCTV cameras. ...) but surprisingly could not give me an answer to my question.

Any suggestion on a good USB wireless set ?

Thanks again,

Al.

Appreciate the info.

How's the RF-250 comparing with the Gyration Ultra Professional Desktop Suite ?

I've got a cheap Memorex keyboard and mouse on the wife's puter that I've tested out to 50', and it works fine.

What I'd do is try a straight connection, and if it doesn't work, then add the USb extension.

I've never used the Gyration progruct, but from my experience, the WIreless Computing 250 is Rock Solid. It is a 2-Way Communication Keyboard which means when you hit a Key, it will send the command until it receives back a confirmation from the receiver unit. And 100' is a very conservitive rating. It is by far the best RF keyboard I've used.

Maybe the Gyration has similar technology... Couldnt find enough info on their web sit though to confirm or refute that.

I've used both and they both work extemely well. That's a very tough call.

I love the gyration mouse because you can just wave it around in the air to use it. You don't have to find a solid surface to operate it on. I also love the rechargeable battery system with it. I don't think it continues to send the command until received though. I'll have to find out.

The RF-250 Keyboard is top notch. It has a good weight to it and feels (and looks) like a high quality keyboard. The fact that it has the built in PS2 port so you can use any mouse your little heart desires is a great feature.

Personally I'd love to have the RF-250 keyboard with a gyration mouse.
