I hope this is a joke. Nobody in the history of the NBA has scored more in their first 5 games than Jermey Lin. Ever! It IS more remarkable because he is asian and he is the prototypical underdog. Who's the last great asian scorer? I'm sure that was a joke but if it wasn't, WTF?

+1.

Last night he played so selflessly with all of the great assists! Hey, and no tatoos (yet!) I had given up watching the NBA until this sensation came along!

I doubt race has anything to do with it save for self-identifying Asians. It is about an unheard, unknown underdog who gets his chance and takes a dredfully boring team in the media capital and transforms its play. He was not a #1 draft choice from a college basketball power, as was John Wall. I doubt anyone outside of Cambridge or someone who follows Ivy League basketball had even known he existed.

When Cornell made it to the final 8 it was news. It is rare that real student athletes get a chance to compete with the semi-pros. When they do play well it's news. Even those great Prinston teams did not put anyone into the NBA. Most Duke players never become stars. Here we have someone who is a Havard Grad, a Christian and Asian who has played at an amazing level and transformed a dreadful team and injected it with life. All the NY papers have stories about Anthony and Stoudemire harnessing their egos to play with Lin. We haven't seen that since Garnet moved to Boston to play with Pierce or when Earl the Pearl had to play with Clyde. Garnet wanted a championship. We will see what Amare and Melo will do, particularly as they could not do much themselves and Lin has brought the public on to his side. If they do not the papers and fans will ride them out of town.

Yeah, not a big NBA fan but the talk out here is there is concern tha Melo will try and showboat and be kind of a Kobe Bryant when he returns...

...On the other hand Seattle might get a team again soon. We'd love to have Lin!

Too bad he's not good enough to showboat.  Talk about not living up to your potential.  What a waste he's turned out to be.  All Hype. No Hoop.

The only part race plays is that he was overlooked previously because of his race. If he was black or white his surge wouldn't be so sudden. I know it's a stretch but its not unlike Tiger or Eminem, both who possess talents that exceed the average star in their respective occupations but were overlooked due to ethnicity until their talents became so obvious that everyone suddenly took notice of this person that didn't fit the social stereotype of said profession.

It's only been 7 games. Let's see what happens now that teams will game plan to stop him and other star's egos have been piqued. Both Melo and Amare have both said the right things. It may be easier for Stoudemire since a point guard who plays the pick and roll well fits his game well. Anthony? He likes to have the ball and now there is a competent player in that position it may require he alter his game somewhat. He want the ball at the end of the game. He loves to play isolation. But Clyde and Earl were not supposed to be able to share the ball and they co-existed rather well.

I'm also not a big NBA fan but it's hard not getting caught up in the excitement. This is so unusual, particularly in the NBA. The last player to accomplish this was Ginobili and he was a known international commodity with a world title to his credit, not an obscure, Ivy graduate and 12th man. Even Tom Brady, a 5th round draft choice, came out of Michigan. Fitzpatrick was not an unknown QB, despite being a Harvard grad. When was the last time, other than baseball, an athlete came out of nowhere to dominate, if only for a brief moment?

The only players that come to mind that sort of took their game's by storm are Kurt Warner who did play college ball, but not at a foot powerhouse to my recollection and went undrafted, and Steve Nash who was not even recruited to play college ball. Both of these player built themselves to become players at the top of their sports. However, neither did it in this fashion, coming in as the last man on the bench to take not just the city by storm, but the entire league. It's really quite inspirational, as he very easily could have given up after being released twice, and being buried on the Knicks bench. He is either smart enough to know he HAD to step up his game in every respect or his career could be over, or he just needed the time to adjust and finally show the skills he possesses. I too have turned on the Knicks after not watching since Allan Houston was with the team.

I'd add Tom Brady to that list.

You're all a bunch of racists!
If he was an african-american or white, he wouldn't be getting 1/10th of the coverage and you guys wouldn't be going gaga over him.

Oh Floyd is such an idiot.

Whoever made this meme pic that is buzzing around social media and email has a much better sense of humor (even if it is exploiting a racial stereotype).

Rick that is hilarious. People shouldn't be sensitive to crap and see that is funny!! Just like when I was younger and was dunking two hands. A 6'1" white boy isn't supposed to do that, especially not a 215lbs one. So I heard all kinds of funny stereotype jokes. Now being a fat, 275lbs, 35yr old with bad knees I can still grab the rim one handed and the jokes are worse. haha
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

It's nice to see some on in the NBA getting press for having a 10 point 13 assist game. If there was more of this the NBA might be watchable now I can go to an assortment of play grounds in and around Atlanta and see the same quality of play as the NBA.
