The DVI copy write battle has never really been resolved and by the time it is, DVI will be a non-issue anyway. Remember when DAT tape recorders were going to destroy the music business and then CD ROMs were going to destroy the music business and now everyone is finally realizing that greed has been destroying the music business all along. This whole fungus never stopped growing, it just rolled over into the movie world. I imagine the battle will continue long after I retire, but in the mean time you and I have to take it on the chin for these morons who are never going to fully agree on any standard.

Don't forget the attempt to make it illegal to use a tape recorder to record copies of records in your own home for your own use.

Back in 1924, when the proud engineers unveiled their new thing at the record companies, which was using microphones and electronics to make recordings instead of just playing loudly into a big horn that vibrated a needle to cut a master, the suits first decided against it. Not because they thought it would lead to loss of revenue, but because they figured the public wouldn't care. I don't know which record company started using mikes first, but God Bless 'Em. The suite NEVER understood what was going on, and don't today.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Just let the cable company keep returning like avintegrator said. Then if on their 6th trip the installer says "....well no, we dont HAVE to hook it up that way." one could just bail on the whe whole thing and install some rabbit ears and a set top DTV tuner. I bet the DVI output would keep working and you wouldn't have to pay a monthly premium.
